Is speeding a civil law?

Or is it a criminal law?

It varies. A regular speeding ticket is a municipal violation which can escalate up to a misdemeanor. I have never seen a case of it, but I have heard that it can be taken up to a felony with other factors present.

So that means it's a civil crime?

Read it again slim, I know you can do it.

I know you can tell everyone what type of crime speeding is. Come on... don't make me do it.

By the way, when was the last time someone sued someone else for speeding down their street? I'm pretty sure there were several speeding cases tried in courts across the country on this very day. How many of them were civil trials?

Are there a lot of civil misdemeanors?

Slim, get your own subscription to Westlaw. Here's a tip, learn about the law BEFORE you break them, it might save you some uncomfortable "guy time".

Still avoiding the question while pointing out the fact that I've been convicted of a crime? I'll give you one thing, you're persistent!

I've been convicted of speeding. I didn't have a civil trial though. Why is that?

Slim, I answered your question. Your persistence is your inability to read, or comprehend what I wrote. I stated it as simply as possibly, yet you continue on this line.

I don't know about your state, but where I work, you would have had a court trial, because it is a breach of a municipal, county, or state code. The severity of the offense will determine what level of breach it is. In extreme cases, a speeding ticket can be elevated to reckless endangerment, which would get you a jury trial.

Inability to read or comprehend. OK.

Well, if someone has a court trial because they breached the law of a municipality, a county or a state... uh, if it's not a civil trial.... what kind of trial is it?

That sort of a trial is a Court or Judge Trial. Slim, I can see the straws that you are so desperately grasping for. It is a civil remedy to a criminal action, it happens all the time in law. Just because you don't understand it, doesn't make it unlawful or unconstitutional, it just means you don't understand the legal system, but we all knew that already.

That is a first step Slim, to admit that you have a reading and comprehension problem.

What do you call someone who commits criminal actions?

Like an ongoing criminal endeavor? I'd call them a criminal.

So crime has to be ongoing or else it's not a crime?

Slim, once again, read what I said. I was asking for clarification as YOUR verbiage was unclear. A criminal is someone who commits crimes. An ex-con is anyone who has committed a misdemeanor or above in the past. Small distinction, but one indicates a continuing action.
