Disgusting Van with Graffiti across from my house

What would you do if a delivery van is constantly parked across from your house and is covered in graffiti?

The libertarian in me wants to take my cars and park so closely they can't pull out (except the fact my cars would probably get damaged...)

The conservative in me wants to shoot out its tyres or at least slash em up.

The liberal in me wants to ban together with other neighbors to get permit parking in our neighborhood which would keep such vehicles out and make the local government a bit of money too.

Oh what to do.

What exactly is the offensive nature being displayed on the van, it might be they are in violation of some local or state ordnance.

Why let something like that upset you? There are many decorative choices that people make that are 'offensive' but they are all outside the front door, it's not like you are forced to spend your day staring at the stupid thing. I'd learn to ignore it if I were you.

Tagged property is often an indicator of something worse.

My honest (and serious) response to Sousuke's question would be I'd call the cops and tell them I saw underage kids with beer bottles coming out of the van. That will get the van searched.

The van is attracting crime. A few weeks ago I think someone was mugged near it, we found her wallet in one of our bins and we did call the police. Basically this vehicle has been here for a very long time and now other vehicles of the same nature are being parked nearby. Effectively its creating a seedy area IMO. However, i don't think the owner(s) of the vehicles are involved.

There is nothing offensive about the tags that i can tell.

I don't think the owner did anything to the vehicle, however where it has been in the past has probably caused it to get graffiti...probably because it has the appearance of being abandoned.

However, when a neighbor called about it being abandoned they said the registration was recently renewed etc.

I emailed the police department.

Anyway, apparently a neighbor complained to the police, and they said if they get a few more complaints they'll do something about them.

You are not a Libertarian. A Libertarian would realize it is his neighbors right and live his own life. Conservatives do not use their guns to damage other people's property. You are clearly not a conservative or responsible gun owner. You are obviously a liberal that thinks you have to decide everything for everyone else, and you have decided he cannot have this vehicle. You think it is good to confiscate money that people EARN so the "government can make a little money" You probably think national health care is a good thing.

How about minding your own business...OR, sell your property and MOVE? THEN you can say you are a Libertarian.

Call the police? Why didn't I think of that? That is just what our police need to be doing.

In Vermont we have almost no crime because people carry guns and police do not trouble themselves with whiners calling about graffiti on peoples vans (not even the cars filled with liberal bumper stickers)Maybe other states ought to try it.
