jdesigns, as someone said before every embassy is different and you need to look at what your embassy requests for the country you are trying to bring someone from. To do that you can look on this is site. Click on portals, then in the drop down box select your country and go. Then click on embassy info.

Channah&Aaron, you cannot send the info until the embassy acknowledges that they received the documents from NVC. You do not have to wait until you receive packet 3. Once they receive your documents you can send in Packet 3. To call NVC do the following:

1-603-334-0700

Press 2 for Non-Haiti-Related issue (Please note that this will probably change after some time)

Press 1 for English

Press 5 for an operator

You might have to call daily to find out what day it left. It can then take a week to a few weeks for the embassy to receive your documents and then a few days to week for them to acknowledge they received your documents. You can call DOS to find out if the embassy has received your documents by doing the following:

1-202-663-1225

Press 1 for the Main Menu

Press 4 for Foreigners Applying To Come To the US

Press 2 for Immigrant Visas (yeah, yeah - we know they're not really)

Press 3 for Family or Employer Based Visas

Press 2 for Fiance(e) visas

Press 0 for an Operator

You do not book your interview through DOS. You book your interview through the CSC website here: http://usvisa-info.com/en-CA/selfservice/ss_country_welcome

Also, since DOS confirmed that you have been sent Packet 3, you can go ahead and get your paperwork to Montreal instead of waiting for the physical copy of Packet 3. Here is what you will need to send Montreal:

DS-156 – 2 copies https://evisaforms.state.gov/ds156.asp

DS-156K – 1 copy http://www.state.gov/documents/organization/82063.pdf

Form DS-160 – one copy, available online at https://ceac.state.gov/genniv/

Confirmation receipt regarding Form DS-160 – one copy, available online at https://ceac.state.gov/genniv/

DS-230 part I and part II – one copy per each applicant, including children

Checklist of documents to gather for the interview – one copy per family is sufficient.

All of the above forms your mentioned have to be mailed back or brought to the interview with you??

; thank you so much for the information.

So, as soon as the Embassy received our petition (after calling DOS), we can send the forms right, even though we haven't received our package 3 yet?! Just making sure =)

I am on the phone, calling NVC right now (waiting for 5 min, grrrr).. hopefully they have received AND sent my petition to Amsterdam.. it has only been a week since we received our NOA2, but you never know

I'm very confused about what forms have to be mailed and what forms will have to be brought to the interview with you??

Once you have your new case number can you send off the paperwork that needs to be sent or should you wait for your pkt3. Also once you have sent off the Pkt3 can you schedule your interview and medical right away without having received your Pkt4???(tried to schedule medical but was told I had to have an interview date first) I've checked the flow chart and example forms.. but am really stumped... on what needs to be done

Hello, don't know if you all can help with this one .... I'm applying for a K1 Visa for my Moroccan fiance. He received his package from the Consulate and one of the forms they gave him to fill out is the DS-230 "Application for Immigrant Visa and Alien Registration." He is not applying for an immigrant visa. Is this a mistake on their part, or do you think he should fill this out? Thank you!

Wrong. Approved petitions will go through NVC "most of the time, not ALWAYS", but there are some cases wherein it will be sent DIRECTLY to the US embassy where the beneficiary will be interviewed for his/her visa. And that is a good thing if USCIS forward it directly to the consulate.

Ours reads the same about being sent to the "listed" consulate but I can't find a consulate listed anywhere. So can I just assume it is the consulate that I listed on my application? I'm just curious...how do you all know all this stuff? One of you says it always goes through the NVC and another says it doesn't. How do we know what is right? Also, there are no instructions on what to do next. I know there is a lot of information on this site and I plan on looking through it, but how are they supposed to expect you to know what to do, if they don't give you any instructions? I tend to worry more than I should so this is probably just another one of those times. Thanks for listening and whatever help you can give!!

Four-year-old thread closed because of its age and often-confusing information. Refer to the VJ Guides and to the "Embassy Info" for the consulate where you will be interviewing. Post only in English unless you're in a regional forum, please.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
