Can the physical be done after we get number from NVC or do you have to wait for embassy to tell you when to go ?

I've read from my portals(Philippines) that they had their medical done as soon as after they got/know their case number from NVC, they didn't wait for a signal from the embassy.

Anyway, it might be different from your counttry. Give US embassy a call and ask them about your concern.

Ok, so I received the NOA 2 and it was approved! But one thing that confuses me is this, on the letter is says "The above petition has been approved and forwarded to the listed consulate. (and above it says Jordan) Please contact the consulate with any questions about visa issuance." Does this mean that the application is already in the US embassy in Jordan, or is it still in the NVC?

Help please and thanks. Also, is it normal to have a "valid through" date on the NOA 2 form?

Many people are receiving NOA2s that say the file is being sent directly to the embassy. However, all those files are still going to NVC. Your file will be going there, too. :) It will be assigned a new case number and then forwarded to your embassy. You can call or email NVC to find out the new case number OR you can wait until they mail you a letter with the new case number. :)

Well I don't care what anyone says (ILOVESAM) once you are approved NOA2 all petitions are sent to NVC to have a case number created and then sent on to the beneficiaries consulate/embassy in their country. Medicals can be done once you have a case number but all NOA2 beneficiaries should look up their local consulate/embassy and check their guides and what they have to do their end. All this should be looked at while the 129f is being processed so you have a heads up when it is all approved. No wasting time and enables you to get things done quicker. All countries have different processes so we can't all comment on your case as each embassy does things a little differently to others.

Goes to the NVC, always. USCIS is under the Department of Homeland Security. The NVC,Embassies and Consulates are under the State Department.

Your case goes to the NVC to get it's case number. USCIS (Dept. Homeland Sec.) can not and does not issue case numbers, only State Department does. Then it will be sent to the embassy/consulate in the designated country.

So as others have said, a week after your NOA2 was approved, start calling the NVC to get your case number. Always talk to an operator as K-1s don't get put on the automated system.

I know everyone talks about calling the NVC, but could I just as easily wait to hear from the embassy (aka Packet 3)? Is there a reason I would need my new case number right away? Or is it just for my own sanity, like "phew, the NVC received it, things are moving along!"

Whoa, people. Relax a little. You just finished the most frustrating part of the whole process. Now things begin to move much faster. Unless your fiance(ee) comes from a country that has a high rate of fraud or other types of crimes the process through the NVC will be very quick. The new case number is assigned based upon the embassy controlling the interview. You can visit the U.S. embassy web site for your particular situation and find out a lot of information about the remaining process. You will need to be sure that any remaining documents are sent to your fiance(ee) in preparation for the interview. In most cases, the packets 3 & 4 can be downloaded from their web site.

VJ has some pretty good information on each embassy and the average time it takes to process through to the visa. Take your time, review the information and plan accordingly. For most of you passing the NOA2, the rest of the trip will go relatively fast. Make a list of all that you need to do and check off each step. There are things for your significant other to do, like arrange for a police report, plan for the medical exam and trip to city of the embassy, etc.

Has the form DS-160 superseded the DS-156 and DS-156K forms? It has been awhile since we started the (NOA2) K-1 Visa application process. My wife had to apply on line, and process the following documents for her embassy interview, the DS-156, DS-156k, and the DS-157. Have there been changes to this procedure? I see where someone posted the DS-160 as a new document. I apologize if I have been unaware of the changes, if any. The VJ site maintains an up to date list of the NOA2, and the eventual AOS. As recommended, it is best to look at these check list first. Please be mindful that embassy procedures vary from embassy to embassy. I’ve often wondered why, but our dealings were different than other embassies.

I would suggest calling or if you are going through Thailand I would suggest calling. Pui received a letter in the mail telling her to go to the embassy's website for packet 3 but I noticed people a few months before us did not receive packet 3 and had to get the info from the embassy's website. So I think every embassy is different and can be different at different times.

; ONE QUESTION THOUGH!!!

Ok, Aaron and I received our NOA2 almost a week ago & we already organized all our proof and forms.

Can we send the forms to US Consulate in Amsterdam as soon as they received our petition from NVC? (it takes a week to get to Amsterdam after we send it), or do we really have to wait until we receive our Package 3, even though we already have downloaded the forms from the internet?

Your answer would be very appreciated!
