Interview Date? Who sets it? NVC or Embassy?

Who sets the interview date? The NVC before the packet gets sent to the Embassy, or the Embassy itself after receiving the packet? I am specifically asking about the Bogota Embassy.

I am just trying to guess more or less within a few weeks "window" when I will need to be taking off from work to travel for the interview process with my wife. At this time both of our packets (AOS and IV) have been received by the NVC. And I am about 99.99% sure that all is correct in both packets.

When do you think I would be hearing about the actual date of the interview from this point?

The Embassy sets the interview date

Are you sure?

Do you mean the Embassy sets up the date but you are informed via NVC?

It depends on the country and the type of processing ,ie. electronic vs. mail .

Give them a call and by giving them your case # and if you get the right operator ( not all have the same standard knowledge ) , then, she/he can tell you . Call several times to confirm the answer.

From what I've heard it's always the embassy, Because from NVC it's sent to the embassy and then the embassy emails/send letter regarding the interview date.

From what I am able to tell from the following quote, the NVC schedules the interviews for IR/CR visas:

Schedules Interviews for all immigrant visa issuing U.S. Embassies and Consulates General, with the exception of the Consulate General in Guangzhou, China, which schedules its own interviews

I believe that scheduling is done within a timeframe that works with the respective Embassy or Consulate. I did see a thread here on VJ, that EP cases that go to GZ are also scheduled by the NVC. Whereas non-EP IR/CR files that go to GZ are scheduled by GZ IV.

That's cool, I just checked the Bogota Embassy site and the list of appointment dates for June are all there and my Case number begins with BGT20116XXXXX and they have already scheduled appointments for BGT20116XXXXX, so hopefully that is a good sign that we will be scheduled in July. That is what I was shooting for.

Exactly where are you finding the schedule--we are in Costa Rica so it may be different, but I can't figure out where to look.

I am also interested where an appointment list can be found on the Guangzhou, China website. Anybody know?

I just Googled "Bogota Embassy", then clicked on "Immigrant Visas" on their site, then along the left hand border were items listed under "Immigrant Visas" including "List of Scheduled Appointments".

Alibaba--

You are correct that every consulate is different--some want the spouse there, some don't, and some leave it up to the married couple--this is definitely not a one size fits all situation, and everyone should check with the individual consulates before making travel plans
