USCIS Receipt Number

I recently submitted our I-129F Visa application (March 4, 2011) and as of now our receipt number is not working. The notice date on my I-797C is March 9, 2011. I have called the USCIS to check the status of our application every month. Every time I call and enter my receipt number I get an error that the case number can not be found in the USCIS system. After this I usually use the prompt for "lost or do not know my receipt number" to speak with a USCIS representative on the phone. The representative asks me for some basic personal information and then for my receipt number. Again the representative informs me that my case number can not be found in the USCIS and transfers me to speak with an immigration officer. I've called and have gone through this process 3 times in the last 3 months since I submitted our I-129F.

The first call (1 month after submission) the immigration officer apologized for the inconvenience of the online case status being down due to technical difficulties. The officer informed me that everything was on track and on schedule with the processing of our Visa.

The second call (2 months after submission) a different immigration officer told me that our visa has been back logged and will be delayed 4 months until they even get to our application. I was a bit shocked after receiving a different answer then the first call made a month prior. I asked the officer how long we were looking at to complete the whole process. The officer informed me that it's be 4 months until they started our application process and then another 5 months for the normal processing time. The officer also informed me that she would contact the help desk to activate my receipt number. The officer said that it should take up to 30 days to activate me receipt.

The third call (3 months after submission) yet I spoke with another officer with a totally different answer then the second. The officer assured me that processing time for the fiance visa is typically 90 days from the receipt to receive the NOA2. I confirmed the dates on my I-797C with the officer and confirmed the typical 90 days with the officer. Again from the second call, it's been over 30 days and my receipt number still does not work.

I have no way to check my status with the online case status being down for my receipt. Anyone else encountering these problems? I'm very patient and know it takes time to process our application. I'd just like to know what's going on and if I need to do anything further on my end.

I'm thankful I found this site to share and read others stories through this whole K-1 Visa Process. I wish everyone here the best! We're all going through this together :-)

Yeah, I created an account at the USCIS website. I then clicked on "Add a Case to Your Portfolio" and received the error:

To add cases to your portfolio, please enter the application receipt number.

Validation Error(s)

You must correct the following error(s) before proceeding:

Customer Portfolio Insert Failed

Attempting to add a case that does not exist. Check the application receipt number.

Please complete all the required fields marked with a *.

Application Receipt Number: *

Any other ideas? Thanks, JeWcHee for the recommendation.

How frustrating huh, the USCIS website is inaccurate I could say. My petitioned was approved in 99 days, but the website says it is still in the "Initial Review". For now, it is a waiting game, just be patient. If you hit the 5 month mark, that is the time you should call for help from your senator or congressman from what I have read in the forum. Goodluck to you and your fiance!

Thanks! Congrats on the quick approval! I sure hope I don't have to make it to the point of calling my senator or congressman. But I'll do what I have to do to get my fiance here. We are deeply in love and missing her more every day that we are away from each other. I'm thankful we have international plans in our cell phones and can use yahoo messenger to communicate and see each other. We have been together now for 7 years and will just trust that the USCIS does not delay our process. We are both so excited and longing to spend the rest of our lives together. Time to play the waiting game like most of us are doing now. We'll all make it!!

Yes, when we filed, our case never showed up online until we were approved nearly five months later. I called frequently and they kept telling me that my case was at CSC but the online system was malfunctioning. That was over 2 years ago, and they are still using the same excuse. In my opinion the only thing that is malfunctioning is their staff. I have never heard of having a petition backlogged although I suppose it is possible. I believe you will find that the normal processing times apply and hopefully based on some pretty quick approvals lately, you will have an answer soon. As evidenced by the multiple different responses you received, the people answering the phones have no idea what they are talking about. You filed in March, so you are almost 3 months into the process. Lots of people have been approved in 3-4 months, so you could be seeing an approval soon. :) Good luck to you!

Thanks!! It's great to know I'm not the only one who is having problems with my receipt number not working :) Yeah, 3 months! Would be great to be approved in the next few days. I wait patiently for my true love. Congrats also to you and your husband!! Im sure you are both happily married now that you said it's been 2 years since your process. :) God bless you both! And to all the couples here in the visa process
