Did I read somewhere here that once you receive the approval on your petition, it's possible to fax a copy of the NOA2 to the consulate and they will send you packet 3, even though they have not actually received the petition? In our case it would be Montreal. That notion has been rattling around the back of my bean and I just can't recall if I actually read that or if I just hoped it into reality.

Another thing we've wondered about .....my husband is serving in the Canadian Forces. He has served 21 years this coming Sept 21. Upon receiving his interview appointment he will give the military his 30 day notice and retire. He will receive a full physical and of course his immunizations will be up to date.Is there any way he " get around " the additional medical exam required, being as he will have received one by the military? I realize the approved drs are licensed by the US govt to perform the medical exams, but geez , these are military doctors. Again, maybe just wishful thinking on our part. But hey , it doesnt hurt to hope now does it?

I served inthe military for nearly 15 yrs. Army, Navy then Air Force flying onthe Cp 140 Aurora as an Electronics sensor operator (aesop). Got out Jan 2005. Nope he has to go through another medical like everyone else. What he can do is get any of the needles he requires for free at the base hospital. More than likely he has more than what is required and has the handy dandy immunization booklet he can take to the medical interview.

Being military they ask (at least fro cr-1 they did) proof of military service. I sent in my UER (unit employment record) that has all information from the day you joined till the date you printed it off. Only a few pages long. I attached a cover sheet statin git was an official militarty document and got my commanding officer to sign it. Of course being Air Force. it was pretty easy to walk into his office and get himn to sign it, might not be that easy in the Army. One could get a senior suprivisor to sign it as well, or the Admin O. Cheers

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Look in the guides under example forms "Request for Provisional File" listed under K1, this document can be re-worded for the K3, some consulates allow a "Request For Provisional File" to be submitted others do not.

Never hurts to jump start the process.

Ah Flames , you pretty much confirmed what we had thought would be the case...Dang It!! Not a huge deal, though it would have been nice to save a couple hundred bucks to repeat what will already be done.

He's gotten his personnel file and will likely obtain another as he's about to retire as it will be current. Thanks for the heads up on the signature , that's a good plan, one we likely wouldn't have thought of.

LOL , if you've ever been to CFB Pet , you know NOTHING is easy there....grrrrr!! Pretty much everyone thinks they're the one in charge until it's time to accept responsilbility.....wayyyyy too many chiefs if ya know what I mean. Everything you need is always on the person's desk who's on leave til Monday. Anyway , don't get me started ~TeeHee~

Cheers to ya!

YuAndDan, that's EXACTLY what I was after, thanks so much!!!!

I did the army (reserves) thing for 3 yrs and knew I didnt want to make it a career, lol Did a UN tour in Croatia then jumped ship to Reg force navy, lol. Air Force is pretty mellow, loved that. You may not require a signature or a cover letter for his UER, but it doesn't look all that official so I figured it couldn't hurt. He is lucky that he canjuyst give 30 days notice. Took me almost 2 yrs to get out. I had just remustered to the Air Force (from Navy) and due to the remustering procress I owed them at least 2 yrs service!! Best of luck
