Not sure is this is the right forum for this, however, I need to express my frustration in a more productive way that screaming behind closed doors about how stupid this is.

Let me get to the point. Last night I was watching Hot in Cleveland, and those of you who have caught a glimpse of the show, I am sure will agree with me that Joy's "Green Card journey" is so far out of what really conspires that it's ridiculous. However, I can definitely see how the the american public(not including our US spouses) can be deceived into thinking that it is so easy and such a joke to come to the US and get a GC. I have actually been questioned on that by a coworker who thought that this process is a breeze. No one sees the frustration, waiting, the hundreds of pages of paperwork, not to mention the financial side of things (you all know how expensive it could get). All people see is a cantankerous, beautiful woman who tries to marry a homeless man and a bogus interview, at her home non the less, ending in the interviewer finding out about the fraud but still letting her stay in the states to give her time to get it together and come up with a legal way to stay. And that is not even the ridiculous part. Last night's episode I was referring to is about her halfheartedly doing community service, which is supposedly going to help her get her GC when the INS (notice not USCIS) sees it. That might seem silly, but I have a lot on my plate with the immigration process as it is and all I need is, if not some compassion, at least to be left alone on the subject and not sent emails about illegal immigration with a "hahaha" subtext or a "Oh, well what is it so awful that you have to go thru with getting a GC?!? They let anyone in in this country so don't worry you will get it too!" :{

It's funny 'cause you'll see it more and more. Movies with incorrect immigration stuff and I know they're just trying to be funny but people ACTUALLY think that's how easy it is and that's annoying 'cause they seem to imply you must be doing it wrong if it's not like in the movies :S

Unfortunately far to many USC lump GC holders and illegals into the same category. They fail to understand the difference. But with the illegal explosion In The states.

I do understand why some do

It would be great to see something (tv or movie based) that correctly portrays this process. The comical way they are always approaching it on tv and movies truly does give people the wrong impression. And now that I think of it, I don't think I have seen anything where the plot actually shows the characters doing it with good intentions (IE, for love), and that's really sad.

For those of us who have an emotional stake in the outcome, the process can be excruciatingly difficult. For a casual observer, it's a bureaucratic bore. If they portrayed it the way it really is then nobody would be interested in watching it. It's not interesting, and it's certainly not funny.

I'd like to think watching a movie or a TV show about how the actual immigration progress works, would be something akin to reading all those long, drawn-out, boring camping chapters in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows; little to no action, and a whole lot of waiting. XD

Married since 03/02/2011, AOS from F-1 visa, green card granted 05/24/2011.
Blessed with a healthy baby boy, 08/19/2011! We get to keep our family together! Thank you! smile.png

It is very frustrating to see all the misinformation that there is everywhere in the media. I am not surprised that the issue of immigration is also handled in such a way.

For example, many people seem to think that if an American citizen marries a foreigner, the foreigner automatically becomes a US citizen. If it only were that easy!

I don't own a TV. I have lived TVless for years now. I am quite happy (though a lot of people find it weird). I do listen to music, NPR, and read books. Now, the internet, I could not give that up!

The banal superficiality of TV is more a sign about what is wrong with our people as opposed to what is wrong with TV. I don't watch it. Especially infotainment passing itself off as news. That is really infuriating.

People will tell you they want to "veg out" in front of the ####### toob. Okay, this is the logical result of that aspiration.

I have to agree completely. The media do NOT seek to educate! They don't know and don't care, even a little, what is truth! They only seek to please corporate advertisers who will pay them money for advertising rights on their shows. This applies to EVERYthing on TV, even what is labeled as 'news', and especially those shows that claim to be "fair and balanced"!!! :rofl:
