I'd rather have people denied coverage for legit reasons than the government dictating who my business must sell their product to/provide their service for. There has to be some reasonable space to deny someone coverage.

If it's guaranteed that someone is going to pay you $300 a month, yet you automatically are going to be paying out tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of dollars to take care of them, that's absurd and not right at all. It's why the 'pre-existing conditions' mandate in Obamacare is ridiculous.... It doesn't take into account anything in regards to business and how things work.

I suspect once most of these parents see the amount of money they'd have to pay out of pocket for health care once their kids are dropped for being obese by private carriers (in a non-Obamacare system) they'd start making more intelligent choices- because insurance companies have already a well-established record of dropping coverage after premiums are paid once lifestyle choices are discovered when care is sought. Obesity may begin as a lifestyle choice, and in many cases ends up causing very obvious health effects later on in life. This given the kind of financial choices most people make up-front. Not everyone is a Spartan like you, Paul.

I don't see why there would be any opposition whatsoever to taking steps towards nutritionally sound school lunch offerings. Those parents that rather raise their kids on junk, by all means, they should pack all the junk they can for their kids' lunches and shove more of that junk down their throats before and after school and over the weekend. Make them as fat and unhealthy as they possibly can. Then turn around and ###### and moan about how much the country pays for their insanity and irresponsibility. Not to mention the burden they put on their children and the years they willfully shave off these kids life expectancy.

I just feel if we are forced to pay for other kids food and healthcare, we should also share in the pleasure of making them.

Oh, you don't have to be a PH.d to make kids, any idiot can do that, but it practically takes a PH.d to raise and feed them.

I guess if parents want their kids to smoke pot without the nanny government interfering that would okay? Because a few joints on the weekend is going to be less harmful to a kid's health than being obese throughout childhood.

Maybe schools should stop anti-drugs education too.

But why stop there? Why not put cigarette and beer vending machines into public schools? How about some porn mags in the school libraries? Who is the muthafcuking gubmint to dictate whether and what kids can drink, smoke and read? Let's also stop telling people that consuming alcohol and tobacco during pregnancies is not so good. Let them be free and find out for themselves. ** the nanny gubmint.

None of what's discussed in the OP is anyone dictating anything. It's saying that public schools - the gubmint - will not hand out junk food but nutritionally sound meals. Don't want your kids to eat well? Fine, load 'em up with junk food. Just don't expect the gubmint to serve it. ** your entitlement mentality and get your own fcuked up food!

my 'entitlement' mentality means whatever is cheaper and economical at the end of the day for schools.

If some BS vegan ####### is cheaper, go for it. However if burgers and fishsticks is cheaper, keep serving that.

As I said, kids aren't fat because of school food. They are fat because they are lard arses who sit and play video games all day. No change in diet is going to change anything without exercise.

Some foods do make you fat. If that isn't obvious then you are beyond hope. As you like to claim not all individuals are the same in terms of response to different substances, allow yourself the open mind to figure out that cheap food will mean fatter kids.

And then remind yourself of how the funds aren't available for PE programs due to... you guessed it... cost-cutting. ;)

Its all about the education isn't it? You want kids to make good choices? They need to be taught- especially when they don't have that at home.

This is what happens (once again) when you generalize things to the point of showing how naive you are.

Nutritionally sound meals are what is most cost effective. Those may cost a few cents per student more today but will save thousands of dollars per person in avoided lost productivity and avoided health care cost down the road. See, sometimes what appears to be the cheap option today is really the more expensive option once all things are considered. It takes a bit more complex thinking than reading a price tag on a product here and now.
