This is interesting - I am reading the VJ guide about the N400 process and this is what it says:

Spouses of U.S. Citizens

Generally, certain lawful permanent residents married to a U.S. citizen may file for naturalization after residing continuously in the United States for three years if immediately preceding the filing of the application:

the applicant has been married to and living in a valid marital union with the same U.S. citizen spouse for all three years;

the U.S. spouse has been a citizen for all three years and meets all physical presence and residence requirements; and

the applicant meets all other naturalization requirements.

From this I understand that you have to wait for 36 months of continuous residency in the US since approval of I-551 before being eligible for filing...Am I reading this wrong?

ok so from what i understood, u have to be a lawful resident, not a conditional resident (which's mean u have to be approved for removing conditions), and been living with ur spouse for full three years and ( he or she) should be US citizen for 3 years. Correct?

"Conditional Resident" does not mean "Unlawful Resident" So, you are not correct in your interpretation.

ok so even if we are still in process of removing conditions but not been approved yet we can still applu for citizenship? What do they mean by conditional in the immigration language?
