I read yesterday in the Stoon paper, that they plan on going on strike at 2359 Thursday night! They said too that inthe past they have come to an agreement at the last minute, but its not looking good for that this time around!! http://www.canada.com/news/Company/Canada+Post+Corporation/Postal+workers+could+strike+this+week/4861880/story.html

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied,that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Don't you worry. They will bargain and come to a deal at the last minute. I almost guarantee it ;)

i just got my visa statement from Canada and it says strike possibly too. Ugh have no idea how I'd pay my stupid bill since i no longer have a Canadian account!

Hard to say if they will strike or not!! Canada post sucks, and they need to wake up!! Most of the news here in Sask is about the teachers striking, soem health care unions striking, not so much on Canada post. But what I have heard, it sounds very likely they will. I would send it via fedex or UPS

My work has me travel internationally once or twice a year, so I need a current passport. Mine expires in February. We've got a window until the end of August where I definitely won't need to go anywhere, so we figured this was a good time to renew it. Work is even paying for it, which is nice.

So OF COURSE! there's an impending postal strike happening now. It only stands to reason! :lol:

[i ended up Fedexing it to Passport Canada. Of course, the lady at the Fedex Store I sent it from forgot to have me fill out a commercial shipping invoice for it, so it got held up for 3 days over the long weekend until I could get to work to fill out and fax them the form they need. Sigh :) ]

All of this means I've been watching Google News on "Canada Post" quite closely for the last week and a half. The journalistic consensus seems to be that a strike is a very real possibility.

I know in Stoon--the mail delivery is contracted out! Was last yr or the yr before they caught the person that delivers mail to my folks area--stealing mail!!!! They no longer do house to house delivery, just drop it off in those group mail boxes, not a very demanding job,lol And with how technology is going, no real need for their services!! 99% of the mail is junk!!! I get al my bills online, pay online! Only mail I get that is "real" is my magazines, and of course, one can read most of them online!!

CBC radio reported that talks are ongoing, but it does not look good for it to be settled by 2359 tonight and very good chance they will strike!!

Was just reported on the radio, Govt made another offer to canada post employees, no comment from employees yet, but if no deal by 2359, they will start LOCALIZED 24 hr strikes, starting in Winnipeg, so not nationally at first.

Yep, just talked to my mom this morning and she confirmed the local strikes... I guess that just means that their service will be even more slow now, if that was even possible :lol:
