Can anyone give me tips on hotels that are near the Embassy that are affordable, and near the DHL and medical places? What is the best way to get between these locations?

Consider renting a small apartment from one of the many places that do this. We rented an apartment right there on 'New Arbat' street a block from the embassy for about 120 a night from City Realty. They even have a limo service to pick you up from the airport and I highly recommend that unless you really know your way around Moscow.

To add, the embassy is located in a pretty expensive area, so hotels are not your best option. I'd also recommend a hostel within walking distance from the embassy - it's hip and friendly and very affordable: http://www.1arbat-hostel.ru/

Another hostel, owned by an American, is called Godzillas, http://godzillashostel.com/moscow/, but you'd have to take metro to the embassy (one stop on purple line).
