Guangzhou Document Handover

Started the visa interview with the document handover today. The interview letter had a list of documents with codes next to them and those with an S were items that the NVC had received the scanned copy (we are doing EP) and the original needed to be submitted on day one of the interview, or so I thought. The items marked with S were

Marriage Certificate

Birth Certificate

Financial Evidence

Visa Application (DS-230?)

GZ P3 supplement

Passport Photos

When Xiaoming was called up for her turn, they only asked for the Tax returns and the photo. I can understand that the DS-230 needs to be signed on the day of the interview but why didn't they at least ask for it or any of the other documents that were listed on the letter? Is this normal?

They also asked her If she was a memeber of the CCP (no) and if she has been out of the country. She said yes, then added to Australia, but she forgot to say to thailand for our recent trip and then they asked how long she was in australia. Not sure if forgetting Thailand is going to cause a problem or not.

This is strange I thought you turn in everything on the first day. My wifes interview will be on June 15th so I guess to expect this as well. I didn't think they would ask about the CCP question yet.

Where are you staying right now, me and my wife are looking for a good and decent hotel to stay in. Are you located near the embassy, and is the embassy in the Tian Yuan (Garden).

If you could and after your wife pass the interview, can you contact us so we can congratulation over the phone and if we could chat a little bit.

sure thing. Yes we are at the Jianli Harmony Hotel right near the Guangzhou east railway station. RMB 2600 for 8 nighs so just a little more than RMB 300 per night. About a 10 to 15 minute walk to the consulate. Very easy to find. If you are coming in to Guangzhou early enough (friday or saturday) you can have the medical done at the Guangzhou United hospital. Much less crowded and they are open on Sunday. The Taxi will try to drop you at the wrong place so check the address on the building where they want to leave you. The Hospital has a sign on the corner of the building and a big PICC insurance company sign on the front. If they try to drop you at the building with the address 197 it is the wrong place. We did the medical Sunday and then went back Monday to take their shuttle bus to the other hospital for the vaccines. The shuttle is only for the patients so you will end up wandering around the hospital for about 4 hours (I did find a cool guitar shop and picked up a gorgeous Stratocaster and case for $200). Don't bother to make an appointment for notary services before the interview unless there is something you really need. We needed some notary for the IRS. Your wife can't come in even if it is her appointment and they are very busy so they don't talk about anything else.

Up for the interview in about an hour so we'll learn if the paperwork or forgetting to mention Thailand was a problem.

You needed to notarize your IRS paper, is that the 2010 tax return or the IRS transcription?

The notary was for the 2010 taxes which I filed as married and joint, but the IRS has been giving me headaches with the ITIN number.

Everything went good at the interview and we have the pink slip (it's actually salmon color, but why expect them to get the minor details correct ) I'll add the consulate review later after we get some rest

####### do you mean I might need to notarize my 2010 Tax return because I wasn't able to get my wife ITIN, I put as we 'FILE separately'. But did put my wife name on my tax return and left her ITIN number blank.

Would you suggest I write up a letter stating I wasn't able to get a ITIN number for my tax return for my wife? And is the notary place in the embassy, and now much did it cost you?

No if you filed married and separate then you're ok. We filed married and joint for the larger deduction, but the IRS has been giving me headaches on getting an ITIN for her. We were trying to get her passport notarized so we could get the ITIN processed. No worries as when she gets her SSN we can file the amended return. As long as you filed married then you'll be ok for the interview. Just remember to bring the 2010 taxes even if they weren't part of the past three years submitted to the NVC.

Did they tell your wife when she can expect her visa to come in the mail or pickup a couple of days later?

They said it may be ready as soon as saturday, if not China post will left the address of a friend in Guangzhou with the post. They will only mail it if you live in one of the 9 cities covered. You can check the consulate website for which cities. If not, then you have to pick it up or have someone pick it up for you or you can have it mailed to someone in one of the cities covered.

I am just getting ready to send our packate 3 in to GUZ

Also I just contacted GUZ because the forms they had sent were exspired on 5/31/2011 They go aheadh and use the one online and they will be ok, I just did not want to rock ther boat any if you know what I mean

I hope the Strat is a god noe I seen a few in PEK and thought about it but I got a 94 strat and well enough said

Just got an email from the consulate and they said that my wife signed the DS-230, but she definately didn't sign it at the interview. Maybe she signed it at the document hand over and didn't remember, but in any event they said the visa was issued June 3rd. Time to start making flight plans.

Yeah it was just the response to my question about the DS-230 but good to know. We already knew that China Post had the package on the 3rd but because of the holiday, her friend didn't get it until tuesday. We're anticipating she'll get it thursday and once she has it in hand I'll pull the trigger on her flight to the US. Damn. seems like I just finished planning one trip (well two counting our honeymoon to thailand) and now I have to plan another vacation. My life is so hard

confuse...i did ep process they have that i scan copy via pdf already is that why they didn't take the actual paper form.

they took my wife's passport...and of course she got a pink form and already made a visa pickup location...

Congrats on getting the pink. Our Visa was ready friday night so hopefully you can get it before you leave Guangzhou.

Yeah it was the same thing. When I asked the consulate about it they said they already had everything and the visa was issued already. Do you know where the post office to pick up the visa is located? It isn't far from the consulate but a little hard to find. The address doesn't match the street name. If you head south from the consulate on Linhe Middle road, you'll reach Tianhe North Road and you have to turn there so go to the left (East). The next street you turn right (south) I believe it is Tiyu East Road When you get down to the tennis courts, start looking for the buildings with the 150 to 160 numbers. There will be one road heading east but there is no name and it almost looks like an alley. The post office is about half way down on this road. You can google the address and see where it is. Google is accurate for this, but the street signs are terrible.
