9/11 has been used for political purposes by both Democrats and Republicans. One important difference however is the way in which the Bush administration has taken sole ownership of the tragedy, using it to encourage nationalistic sentiments as a means to to justify increasingly aggressive policies (not to mention the executive branch's increasingly brazen accumulation of power) while at the same time laying almost total blame for the mistakes and oversights leading to the attack at the feet of the other side.

What's interesting is how you suggest that this current situation is mere hype and is being used by the government for their own agenda.

That would mean the foiled terror plot in the UK must have also been made up. The 93 WTC bombing must have also been made up by the government. The bombing of the US embassies in Africa must have also been made up by the government. Bin Laden and co's serious threats must have also been made up by the government. The whole Sept 11 saga must have also been made up by the government. And if not made up obviously over exagerated right...

When I watch documentaries on these guys there is one thing that is common and evident in all the documentaries. That is, these guys will go to any extreme to carry out their twisted plans. The will not come dressed as a muslim but will try to blend in an as average Joe. The other day I saw a documentary on an al-Qaeda spy who had infiltrated the US military and was working it in for years. It got me thinking about how many of these type of guys are already in the US. I wouldn't be surprised if someone in this forum is married to a guy like that..

On a side note, does anyone recall any Republican government officials demanding serious editing or complete cancellation of Fahrenheit 9/11? Is the First Ammendment still valid?

Please show me where the Michael Moore movie was claimed as "the OFFICIAL true story".

Whether or not he used that particular term is irrelevant, though he certainly claims his movie is factual. My point is about government censorship of political speech....the very thing the Freedom of the Press clause in the First Ammendment was intended to prevent.

That particular term IS relevant as it is a CLAIM made by ABC which they later said that key scenes are made up, so tell me again, how is it the official true story but KEY scenes are made up?!

Remember I am not calling for removal or editing, I am outraged by the (admittedly) false claims of the network that this is "the official true story" and not the fact that the movie claims that President clinton's administration could have stopped OBL before 9/11 ever happened but didin't.

"Official true story" a claim that Michael Moore never made.

Does it even need to be pointed out that a dramatisation is completely different to a documentary with a political slant?

Actually its not bold but a different font. Someone should conduct some research to see if the sun in that part of the country is frying brain cells.. It would explain a lot of the trash that lives there..

Hmmmm I don't believe I said it was made up. I said both parties have used 9/11 for political purposes. The difference, as I see it, is that the Bush administration has and continues to derive a benefit from it. They have used 9/11 footage in television ads for their election campaign, they blame the previous administration for past failings, whilst simultaneously pulling it out of the hat every 5 minutes as a justification for an amorphous, ever growing war with no clear enemy and no clear end.

Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11, but it has been classified as such by the President, among others in his circle. I just wonder at what point does legitimate defence give way to militaristic opportunism...?

Ah, ok. I see what you're saying. Perhaps it's a bit deceiving but NOTHING as outrageous as calling voters in the South and telling them your opponent fathered a black child out of wedlock. My point is that BOTH Parties resort to tactics that are questionable. This pales in comparison to so many others, so why get worked up over being redirected?
