the sponsor dont need to be a family member it can be a friend. as long that person is a us citizen and hits the minimum

A sponsor just has to be a US citizen or green card holder with sufficient income and/or assets.

Actually the sponsor does not have to be a US citizen, It can be a friend that is a green card holder and meets the financial requirement.
