Hi guys, it is getting to be the time for me to remove the conditions on my husband's green card. His card expires on 09/15/2011 and we just got a letter in the mail today from Dept. of homeland security saying hi there, bla bla your green card was obtained on 09/15/2009 and you're required to fill out a I-751 to remove conditions... that's about all it said and it didn't say anything about when or what the timeframe is. From reading here, I know its 90 days from the experation date...so that I'm cool with. But is it normal to receive this sort of cryptic thing in the mail?

The other thing that concerned me was they still have our old address. The letter reached us because it was forwarded but when we moved back in December of last year I submitted the online form letting them know that we moved. Should I be concerned about this? I know they require us to notify them of new addresses and I am wondering why they sent it to our old address if I did what I was supposed to and notified them with the online system that we moved.

Should I call them or submit the address change again?

I'm also a little nervous about this as we used a lawyer last time to fill out all our paperwork and such and I think this time we're just gonna do it ourselves... so I'm kinda on edge about having to go through all this again. :)

Hey lechatnoir

The same thing happened to me as well. I just added the copies of AR-11 and delivery confirmation which I sent a year ago. If we did not have our mail forwarded, we would not receive the letter so I think it is not a big problem, just attach the copy of your AR-11 and delievry confirm if you have them.

You should be fine

Posted

Ok, perhaps I should know this...but what is an AR-11? I went to USCIS's website a while back and it said as long as we didn't have a pending case we were allowed to report the new address just online... so I did that and I don't have any copies of anything.

Did I not do it as I should have?

Same happened here, we received this reminder letter at our old address after filling AR-11 online way back then, and again we file AR-11 by mail, plus our ROC has our new address on it. Hopefully they'll get it this time.

Also I do not recommend to include AR-11 with your ROC application, just putting the new address on your I-751 should suffice, you will get everything through that address. There's a separate mailing address for AR-11 in London KY.

Ok, I looked up what an AR-11 is. :)

Should I fill out a manual one and mail it this time? And since it said I was required to do it within 10 days of moving... should I still put the original move date?

Also, I saw this on the website as well:

Regardless of whether you are or are not a citizen, if you have previously submitted a Form I-864 on behalf of someone who has become a permanent resident, you must also complete a Form I-865 within ten days of the completion of the move for legal purposes.

Is that something I need to be concerned with?

You can mail a manual one as we did so USCIS wouldn't blame us, and if you've already filed AR-11 online before, the 10 days ruling doesn't apply to you anymore. The mailing of AR-11 it just giving them a wake up call about how incompetent they change of address system is.

As for US Citizen change of address we didn't remember to do this and have no plan on doing so, since its only for when beneficiary use mean tested benefits.

Okie dokie thanks...

The thing about the I-864 confused my little brain so... based on that, I'm assuming all I have to do is the following:

1. Mail the AR-11 to the numskulls cause they didn't update our address the first time

2. Put our new address on our ROC when we file it

3. Don't worry about it aside from that? :D

Thanks again.

Also, could someone tell me how much it costs to file ROC?

I read the FAQ, it just said make sure you send appropriate payment... I downloaded the form and it doesn't say how much it is either :/

I agree with katiemanny - no need to include the AR-11 as you have already advised them of the change - also, they will go off the address on your ROC paperwork.

**Interesting to note though...the IO who pulled my ROC paperwork to review it, clearly didnt take note of the I-751 properly, because I had stated my residential address and a different mailing address (PO Box) but they sent my NOA to my residential address!!** :bonk:

I also got that reminder notice, and most people on here received it too - and everyone received it at the same address they had noted on their AOS paperwork. Even though the IO said to me at the AOS interview that they wouldnt remind us! But the mailing of this notice is automated and pulls info from your AOS application. So dont be concerned about it. Everyone is in the same boat as you!

Hehe thanks a bunch guys! I hope this process is less nerve wracking than the first time! It also seems most are approved without another interview so I hope ours goes that way too.

When you send in the payments do you write two separate checks addressed to USCIS? I know I don't have to do anything with this yet for a few more weeks but I'm already trying to get my ducks in a row and stuff... hehe.

The reminder letter is sent to the address you used when you filed for AOS. If you changed your address you don't need to do it again. The place that sends out the letters doesn't update addresses apparently, it's nothing to worry about.

Mimino- you can file at any time within the 90 days :)
