Hello,

My fiance has a passport that will expire in June of 2012. He will probably have his fiance visa interview within the next couple of months. Should he renew his passport before the visa interview? We're planning on having him move to the US in January 2012 (he wants to get more work experience before he leaves) and at that point his passport will only be valid for around six more months.

The State Department says this about required documentation for the (K1) visa interview:

A passport valid for travel to the United States and with a validity date at least six months beyond your intended period of stay in the U.S. (unless country-specific agreements provide exemptions)

He's intending to stay in the US forever! So I don't know what to do about that. But I'd have him rather renew the passport right before his January departure than do it right now.

Any thoughts/experiences? Thank you :)
