Larry Craig campaigned on 'family values' and was an outspoken critic of gay rights. As far as I can tell, Weiner is not contradicting his stance on anything beyond trying to cover up his transgressions with lies.

I dont care what the politics of either of them was.. its about the fact that they have a duty to maintain themselves in a manner that does not have a negative impact on the office or the performance of their duties... Politicians are humans. They go to ball games, hang out in bars, or at the golf course. Some of them engage in sexual encounters. The question isn't what they do in their private lives as much as whether it is consensual. If every politician who was ever unfaithful to his wife were to resign, Washington D.C. would be ghost town. I think Weiner should resign, not because of his transgressions, but because he wasn't man enough to own up to it when he got caught. Larry Craig didn't resign, but he decided not to seek re-election. Vitter not only didn't resign, he ran again and was re-elected, and he was paying prostitutes for sex. Rudy Giuliani had a mistress and would have her picked up by a car from the Governor's office, so essentially paying for it with tax money, and he ran and is looking to run again for president. These sexual scandals seem to matter little to the public, even when the politician was doing something that they campaigned against, as in the case with Craig.

And that, right there, is why I supported the impeachment of Bill Clinton. His lies were worse - perjury, and lots of fist pounding on tv. But, mainly for the perjury. Bad form for the highest elected official in the land to show complete lack of regard for its laws.
