Whether you like it or not; it is still a federal offense to hack somebody's account; that's the important thing.

How many accounts of all sorts do you think are hacked annually? A few million? How many of these incidents are reported? A few hundred thousand? And how many of these will the FBI actually investigate? A few thousand? And how many of these investigations actually result in a conviction? A few hundred? The point is, the FBI cannot possibly be investigating all of the account hackery that's going on. Not even close. And they usually focus on large value cases. Now, the pic of a wiener under cotton may be of large value to some - folks like Breitbart perhaps - but not the FBI, I would suspect.

Is it a federal offence? Would you go to court if you fraped a facebook account?

It is a federal offense to hack an account. It is also a federal offense to impersonate a Congressman. Whether it was a prank or anything else is irrelevant; if we believe the Congressman ( presumption of innocence ) then this should be investigated as the crime it is.

Also, it wasn't just his twitter account that was hacked, the yfrog account is presumed to also be hacked. Is that all the hacker had access to? Or is the Congressman one of those people who uses the same password for multiple accounts? What else might the hacker be able to find out, think national security issues, if they have access to multiple accounts of a Congressman?

Because I believe the Congressman, I feel there needs to be an investigation of the hacking crime. If you think the Congressman is lying, then I guess you feel there shouldn't be an investigation.

It seems a touch over the top to me, given that we are not talking about national security issues. We are talking about a photo of underwear. Honestly, it's not worth anyone's time. People do things like that to their friends on a Friday night.

So presumably if the guy's brother had typed "i love #######" on the guys page, this would merit indictment. How utterly ludicrous.

Chronology of Congressional Sex Scandals

1st entry: Famed lawyer and orator, Secretary of State, and Senator Daniel Webster (D. MA), the father of four legitimate children, was accused by Washington, DC correspondent Jane Grey Swisshelm of fathering two illegitimate “mulatto” children. While Swisshelm’s boss, Horace Greeley, fired her over story, the charge stuck and is believed to be true. (1850)
