How so? Do you not think that the point might just have been to illustrate that blind adherence to the law (and blind obedience to law men) is somewhat naive?

Your argument is, sin is sin?

Did you read the OP and watch/ listen to the vid?

Be Shrewd! Be Astute and be aware who's watching ya!

My argument is what I said: that people shouldn't assume that people in authority are in the right, just because it says so in some obscure legal text. There's the letter of the law and the spirit of the law - bureaucrats tend to go with the former.

And before you go off on some silly tangent about other laws that have no bearing on this incident - I'm saying that arresting people for jiggling their feet at a monument is ridiculous and a outrageous waste of public money.

Maybe not laws, but certainly 'regulations' have something to do with this incident. How those regulations have something to do with the ability of law enforcement to arrest is what could be discussed in this topic. But I suspect there will be those more interested in the shock factor before they move on to the next equally inane topic.

I think this country has gone to far away from its roots. It's nothing the founding fathers intended for it to be. Our freedoms are slowly being eroded away little by little. Take a good long look at the patriot act. So much for the 4th amendment. Cops can write their own warrants. The founders of this country would be rolling over in their graves if they seen the country as it is now. All those men who died for the constitution from then to now have died only for the king (president) and his lords (congress) to control us. All for the sake of protecting us from the boogie men. Now after seeing this video the 1st amendment is gone as well. I am sure if Jefferson was watching there he was puking. And I will leave quoting Pres. Bush " The constitution? It's just a god damn piece of paper"

At the end of the day if a law is unjust, a man is not only right to disobey it, he is obligated to do so.

i don't disagree. but, the man needs to accept the consequences of his actions. lobby to change the law & you might get somewhere. be an idiot & go to jail.

So it would seem the better target of their ire would have been in changing the 'Regulations' governing these monuments so as not to inspire law enforcement activities against them.

Possibly - but there are plenty of examples out there about dubious laws that make no sense.

Connecticut

Town records may not be kept where liquor is sold.

Michigan

It is illegal to kill a dog using a decompression chamber.

No man may seduce and corrupt an unmarried girl, or else he risks five years in prison.

New Hampshire

It is illegal to pick seaweed up off of the beach.

Arizona

A class 2 misdemeanor occurs if one places a mark upon a flag which is “likely to provoke physical retaliation”.

New Jersey

It is illegal to wear a bullet-proof vest while committing a murder.

Washington

X-rays may not be used to fit shoes.

Silly people make silly laws.

As for the they're taking our freedoms away grumpers... its really never been any different. Some of the maneuvers are merely being formalized after so many years in practice. Now that the White House is under control of a 'liberal Kenyan', all hell is breaking loose in some people's heads.

Yes, clearly they were arrested for breaking a stupid law. But that doesn't justify the police arresting people for it.

Consider this - the fact that there is news coverage and articles about it (even this thread), the folks involved in this have gotten all the publicity they wanted. And the police come out of it looking pretty damn stupid.

I'll disagree with you. As stupid as the law is, if the penalty involves arrest, then the police may have been within their duty to arrest these dancers. However stupid the cops come out looking. This means the cops are justified in arresting them.

As long as its law with a clear and established legal foundation for an arrest.

With all the other crime going on in the DC area, I find it hilarious people would spend so much time focusing on the 'Constitutional' aspect of this as its most likely been happening since this country's foundation itself. Yet now that the antichrist himself is President, it all gets pretty pungent.
