Intro/Maybe a silly question

Hi Everyone, my name is Becca, my fiancé is processing a K-1 for me to come to the US from Canada. It was filed April 8, 2011 according to our notice of action/receipt.

This might be a silly question, but at the USCIS site when it asks for your receipt number there's 8 or so steps. Once I put my receipt number there's only 4. The ones between "Initial review" and "Decision" are missing. Part of me hopes that means I'll get through quicker, but I obviously don't want to get any false hope up. It's currently showing my application at "initial review". It's been in that status for a while, a month or more at least.

If it means anything our application is being processed at the California Service Center. I've heard rumors of people being approved quickly at that center and I think that is what's getting me just a little bit excited. My fiancé is due to deploy with the military right as our application is due to be approved based on normal timeframes so the excitement of finishing up with this first is also feeding into my excitement/false hope.

I didn't see this posted anywhere else on the site, and I hope it's not too silly of a question. I appreciate any feedback at all!

It will stay at that status until it is approved. That will be your NOA2. Then it heads to NVC, goes through a little more processing and you get a new case #, then it is sent to Consulate where you will be given additional information and your interview date. This is the basic process. You will have time to sort it all out. Good Luck. It does appear that California is moving at a quicker pace than Vermont. Maybe that will keep up for you and you won't have to wait 6 and 7 months like most of us have to get your NOA2. Just another note about the USCIS website. It isn't the most accurate indicator. I have read many posts from people who received their approval in the mail and the website still say initial review. I even read another where the couple already had their application sent to consulate and it still was something weird. So don't use it as the best indicator. Hopefully you guys signed up for email notification and or text notification?? Anyhow.....

Good Luck

I think that if your fiance is going to deploy soon you can request for expedite. Look through VJ for expedite requirements and how to go about it. If expedite does not get approved it does not affect your petition, it will just be processed with all the others.

Thank you!! I wasn't sure how the website worked but I thank you for all the information. It's okay if it doesn't go any faster, we're just going to have to make it work. I did set up email notifications so maybe that will help.

We're going through a lawyer so all the paperwork is being sent there. My guess is we'll probably get all my super pertinent information through her.

Thank you for the information about expediting due to deployment. I'm having my fiancé give them a call soon to see what can be done. I don't know how much they'll do right now since they don't leave until December, but I'm sure we'll probably end up doing the AOS while he's deployed. Apparently if they won't expedite the paperwork they'll at least give us an extension on filing the AOS instead of the 3 months timeframe. That was what they lawyer told us anyways. She told us they would give us extensions not expedite anything but it's certainly worth a shot.

Thank you to everyone!

As it was brought up, you may be eligible for military expedition. Check it out, He will have to use some military service to initiate, but someone gave you the link. I have seen many other military expedites, so definitely worth going for it.

Good luck on that part.....
