Still wrong.

not saying it's right, but it's the best thing for us imo.

most of the SO here (especially with caucasian husband/fiance) probably know at least some english to navigate and ask questions. that's not my fiancee. and with a fussy 1 yr old and a 1hr 35min layover i don't want to leave it up to chance that some stranger will help her out...or kind enough to wait by the bathroom if my son needs a change of diaper.

i'm not justifying the action, that's just the reality of it.

is it wrong of me to have requested wheelchair service from EVA because i'm afraid my fiancee will get lost? i just wanted the transfer part from taipei but they couldn't do that so we're getting it at lax also.

anything to let me sleep better that night :)

Eva is very helpful, if your so is worried, just flag down a Eva rep and show them the ticket in roc.

Once, I was idling around after getting off the plane in roc, since I had some food and drink that you can't take through security, I was asked if I needed help when I was just sitting there eating. Then, I was getting ready to go through security, and an eva employee flagged me down and checked my ticket to make sure I was going to the right place because I was way later than the arrival flight due to my eating.

Another time, I had a connecting domestic flight with another airline with a short time frame, I explained the situation to them in roc, and they expedited my baggage. When I got the baggage, it had a priority tag on it, and I was one of the first to get the baggage.

Seriously, she will not be the only person on the flight or in the airport who speaks Vietnamese. As I said, there are a LOT of Viet Kieu on those flights, and most of them would be happy to help her. They use international symbols for stuff like restrooms. Gates all have numbers, and there's signs and arrows pointing which way to go. There are also plenty of airport staff along the route to the transfer checkpoint that can look at her ticket and point which way to go (basically, the same direction everyone else is going). It's virtually impossible to get lost.

If she wants to buy anything during the layover then tell her to get US dollars before leaving HCMC. All of the vendors in Taipai take either US dollars or Taiwan dollars. I'm almost certain none of them them accept VN dong.

There's a decent little cafe in the international concourse that makes pretty good noodle soup, and they have free WiFi. It's a pretty good place to pass the time during a layover.

That might be the reason why those handicapped parking spaces at the local Vnese shopping malls where I live are always occupied. After sitting in my car and making some observation, I notice a lot, more than 50% of the times, the actual occupants of those vehicles utilizing those handicapped spaces look physically fit and younger than 40 years of age.

And going further, that might as well explain why the cheating/fraud at the US Consulate in Saigon is rampant. Everyone cheats; therefore, if I don't then I'm automatically a fool.

this is a big stretch if you're trying to apply them to our case. at the very least the 2 examples you cited are clearly against the law.

w/o going too much into personal details i decided this is the best course of action, and still do. she's had a limited upbringing, comes from a deep rural area in the north, travelling alone for the first time with an infant son...she just told me last night she was planning to roll into the airport about an hour and a half before the flight, is that ok? her judgement is not the best.

i'm not gonna go back and forth on this any further, as i don't feel the need to defend or justify my action here.

just to update my wife and son made it over safely to lax on monday!

in the end she chose not utilize the wheelchair service on her end. she told me the eva transfer gate was just down the hall from where she landed (whereas with me and china air it's on the other side of the taipei airport and a tram ride to get there). her flight was delayed one hour, but with the good karma she built up she somehow managed to be the first one out of customs when i saw her...roughly an hour after landing. she told me my son was crying and the guard just let her cut to the front at the POE. there the customs officer asked her a bunch of questions but she'd just reply "i no understand english" and the lady finally gave up and let her through :bonk:

congrats !!

To quotes a movie, “So how does it happen, great love? Nobody knows... but what I can tell you is that it happens in the blink of an eye. One Moment you're enjoying your life, and the next you're wondering how you ever lived without them.” I felt I found something with Kieu that is rare in life... true love.

Congrats!! I know the process of getting approved for me and my SO is a long ways off, but I intend on going back to VN one more time to pick up my fiance. She has never flown before and I know she will be a little intimidated by switching planes and especially going through customs here in the States. I just want Uyen to know I will be there for her every step of the way until we land here in Charlotte and for her to feel safe. I have enough airline mileage for her to get here one way and I will have to book a flight for myself. I just dread that long flight from Newark to Hong Kong :(
