And Lookywhatifound, I understand the additional background checks, but unless they are sending out field agents to knock on the doors of our past and present lives, I do not know why it would take so long especially since both of us have pretty much been in the same place forever.

Well they do not send out foot soldiers to check on you. The database are at different organizations such as FBI. And its possible that the FBI has more urgent records to check than for USCIS. Which means your check ends up in government bureaucracy and a waiting line. At the lowest end which hopefully it never gets to they have to pull out physical records.

I never understood why government takes so long to do anything but they do. I mean if you ever have to get a security clearance for a job it can take 6 months or more.

I'm not trying to defend any of this waiting this is so frustrating. I mean I was also in this process in 2007 and it took 8 months to get NOA2. Just saying its not purely random, more due to government bureaucratic gobbledeegook! I'm preying for all stuck in this limbo of a nightmare.
