Depends on the year.

Am I correct when I guess, I am an American and my opinion and vote is legally and morally every bit as valid as yours?

 Your vote is just as valid.

but.Your opinion and mine is only as important as our wallets. ;)

We did pretty dadgum well with high historical top rates, as a nation and as individual families. See the twenty years after WWII, just as a fer instance.

And we had small businesses the whole time--buncha fearmongering, this-IMHO.

Excellent post. +1.

The vote is the one thing that equalizes your opinion with the opinions of those who are less wealthy than you are.

Therein lies a problem. People with money have the means to frame a debate better than those without through the purchase of media, facetime with important government officials, et al. And THEIR ideas on taxes are, virtually without exception, no thanks--I'm doing just fine. Well, this country has problems that we can't just cut our way out of.

My wallet is Hermes--very nice, but I wish there were more in it. I can afford and am willing to pay higher taxes for debt service and additional better government services.

We've never talked, Vi-Jay. I'll see what your opinion's worth and vice versa. But I'm sure it'll be fun. I mean--two Eddie Murphy outtakes. :)

Respect.

As an aside, the US has had a national debt every year of it's existence. Every single year. Just something I think is--I don't know, cool? Uncool in a "cool, didn't know that" kinda thing to bring up at parties...just sayin'. :)

Yeah, I just can't buy votes--excuse me "exercise my free speech" as much as they can. Ah well, keep your head up til ya gotta keep your head down.

And thanks--good to feel welcome. :)

Hmmmm, I give you, middle. :D

Welcome back, my friends

to the show that never ends.

We're so glad you could attend!

Come inside! Come inside!

There behind a glass

stands a real blade of grass

be careful as you pass.

Move along! Move along!

Come inside, the show's about to start

guaranteed to blow your head apart

Rest assured you'll get your money's worth

The greatest show it happens a hell-of-alot.

(Chorus)

You've got to see the show, it's a dynamo.

You've got to see the show, it's rock and roll

Right before your eyes,

We'll pull laughter from the skies

And he laughs until he cries,

then he dies, then he dies

(repeat Chorus)

(Extended instrumental, mostly keyboard)

Soon the Gypsy Queen

in a glaze of Vaseline

Will perform on guillotine

What a scene! What a scene!

Next upon the stand

will you please extend a hand

to Alexander's Ragtime Band

Dixieland, Dixieland

Roll up! Roll up! Roll up!

See the show!

Performing on a stool

we've a sight to make you drool

Seven virgins and a mule

Keep it cool. Keep it cool.

We would like it to be known

the exhibits that were shown

were exclusively our own,

All our own. All our own.

Come and see the show!

Come and see the show!

Come and see the show!

See the show!

See the shoooowwwwwww!

Great choice. May be my favorite band to see in concert.good.gif

Why don't they just take ALL our money and then just pay for everything? Certainly housing, cars, food, clothes are all "rights". MUST be. And entertainment and camping trips too! And boats, at least a boat to share. Worked in the Soviet Union, why couldn't it work....wait. NM

Well then donate some your own money and quit trying to take mine. A lot of money is wasted and raising taxes seem to always be the first thing on Democrats mind.

They actually should. I so want them to just get it over with and say what they really want and just confiscate all income over 250,000 and tell the chump that is all they deserve to live on. The best part is it will not even put a dent in the deficit and probably will even make it worse so they will then have to come after us middle class chumps next. I just wonder what they will consider MY LIVABLE salary is as they confiscate anything above that. Of course it stops there as anyone under the middle class is exempt from taxation. As we with any brains know this will not even come close to paying our debt so who are they going after next? The debt will go higher as unemployment will race higher when many businesses close down and even corporations stop hiring. (I am betting very few understand why this will happen) After all America survived confiscatory taxes in the past so that gives a thumbs up to go back to doing it. (Even fewer I am betting understands why we stopped doing it in the first place and why tax revenues INCREASED when the tax rate went downblink.gif)

Of course it isn't no sweat off my balls as I am not near the tax confiscation point YET. The nanny state I am sure will flourish and we can then be like Canadians and say how we have FREE health care.rofl.gif

Historical rates (married couples, filing jointly)

You mean those years when people fed their families with jobs making appliances and fixing shoes and toasters. When we made and repaired TVs. You mean before we ran a bunch of the good jobs out of this country with taxes. Before cheap foreign products made everything disposable...including our jobs. Were you even around in the 20 years after WW2? I was. One of my good friends had a very nice home where only his father worked...as a milkman. Delivering milk to people's homes every morning. He had a new car every three years. A car made in America of American steel.

Then, about 20 years after WW2, we get the War on Poverty, the New Society, and other social programs and it all went to hell.

If you do not have a dog in the fight, and I do not believe you do, then so state. If you are one of the 47% that doesn't pay taxes anyway (so who cares?) then say so.

Investors were also building slums, e.g, as tax shelters. With such a draconian tax rate, folks were stashing cash, investing not to make a profit, but to acquire assets. So, we moved folks from tenement housing into projects. SOS, just a different landlord.

I firmly believe that a significant tax increase (on individuals and corporations) will kill near and intermediate term job growth. :(

(I speak for myself, other's within my circle of influence, what I hear firsthand from peers, Bankers and (small business specialist) CPA's.)

Furthermore, the combination of; Obama-care, US gov's fiscal irresponsibility, no budget deal, no debt ceiling decision and the (overall) barely hanging by a thread economy, is why small business America is not hiring (at a faster pace and signifigance). :help:

Small business America is the proverbial deer in the headlights.

Whether a raise in tax rates will increase revenues is at best a debate. There is a greater propensity a tax rate hike on corporate America (Big Blues to Ma & Pa) at the current state of US economic health would stifle growth/ prolong recovery and create an increased chance of a slide into a deeper recession. The economy is still too fragile. :help:

(We all know who dominates the 250k+ income demographic. (If, Alan shows up and posts it's the Jews, someone please give him a swift kick in the groin)) :bonk:
