Wow that is soo cool. I'm very familiar with that area. It is about 40 minutes away maybe 30 if a fast drive on a clear 95 south lol. Maybe you and her could talk once she is here. She doesn't think so but I really think she will eventually be homesick. So many things are different. She has never been away from say the whole Surigao Del Sur, Cagayan De Oro, Gingoog City, and Butuan part of Philippines. And since I went to visit there I noticed alot of differences. For me they were all good. I would not mind retiring there when its that time. But, for now she is all about here. Still, I know there is alot she will miss. Even that there is no Jolibee's here or Philippines Markets that I know of for Dried Fish etc... Maybe you can fill me in on Philippines places to shop for food and home decor etc... Also I notice you are holding a Wennie the Pooh lol he must be popular there because she has one too. That is her nickname for me lol. Anyway, I am just turning 36 and she will be 22 this year. How old are you if you don't mind? And what are some good places I can take her too once here, you know tourist places you enjoyed once you got here. Nice to meet you, my name is Randy by the way.

I'm living in Havre de Grace Md.

Cool, and you are only slightly less than 2 yrs apart from her. So, tell me what I should do to make it more at home for her when she arrives please. And how it is for you here? Do you like Jollibees and Dried Fish, have you redecorated your new house with Filipino type decor? Just curious questions I have. And oh yeah what part of Philippines are you from. Nice to meet you, Im Randy.

Hi Randy, I arrived here last year before the 4th of July. I adjusted so well because of the help of my husband. Let her cook what she wants to eat, take her out when you too get a chance and show him the American food and culture too. It's good to have The Filipino Channel, although it's nice to let her watch American shows, I didn't redecorate the house before because we were just living in an apartment, and my husband has a lot of stuff, but we bought a house not to long ago, so I am enjoying the capability to decorate the house. Just allow her to do it, to make her feel at home. Visit some places, expose her to the environment, and be understanding. She will surely ask alot of questions. When I was in the Philippines I love dried fish and Jollibee, even now. I still have the craving for that, but the nearest Jollibee is in Queens NY. Let her talk to her family back in the Philippines, my husband always tells me that the computer room is my happy land. I was from Bataan, nice to meet you too.

Wow you are really close. Congrats on being that far along in process. So, how old is ur fiancee since we are pratically neighbors lol. How far are you with her papers so far. I have this question that I have not had answered fully yet... What can I start on while this long wait for Noa2 is on. She made change to her BC (it had typo) and its a good thing because they told her she will get the corrected 1 in 4 months. What did you do while waiting, did you get any docs done? I know some can't be done until close or after noa2 due to expirations...but which can be done. Also are you exited being a month or 2 away from her beign here.

Hello. You can take her to Air and Space Museum in Chantilly, VA or to Luray Caverns. Go for a DC tour, they have good packages to stop and see monuments, smithsonian, capitol hill, white house and more, choose the orange double deck bus. And Buffalo, NY is just 7 hours drive from MD so you might want to take her and from there, you can go to Niagara Falls (American side) or cross border to Toronto. And I just found out that there are different gardens in Wheaton Regional park and a place where you can see different live butterflies.

No. I have not decorated our house with Pinoy decor because I don't have any :D We are going back to Quezon City, Philippines in November so I will do some shopping.

I wish there was Jollibee here in MD, I miss Jollibee in Las Vegas, it's not as good as the one back home though, but it's better than nothing. There is Lumpia, Pansit atbp in Gaithersburg, they serve real good Pinoy foods.

I stopped working after I gave birth to my son and now, I am back to school for my Marketing degree.

Good luck on you visa journey,

Beth

Hey Randy, in Fort Washington, there is a long-established Filipino community. There are also a lot of Filipinos in New Jersey.

Salamat, you have given me a few new ideas I didnt consider. Like, Air and Space Museum in Chantilly, VA or to Luray Caverns and wheaton regional park because she loves gardens :) I do plan some DC things and Niagra Falls. So much to do and I'm excited because alot of it I haven't visited yet either lol. Also, I guess New York/Jersey is the closest place where I believe they have Jollibee, shoot I miss it and I only had it a few weeks out of my life lol.

Thank you, but is there any group or something we could join?

My advice is to wait until your fiancee/wife arrives in the states and then frequent shops and restaurants in those areas. She will inevitably run into other Filipinos and hopefully make some new friends. That's how it happened for my wife. We lived in Southern California when she first arrived in the states and there's over a million Filipinos in CA, so it happened pretty quickly. Then we moved to Flagstaff, Arizona last year and thought she might be the only Filipino here, but within a couple of months, we met some Filipinos at a Catholic Church, exchanged phone numbers and before we knew it, we were getting invited over to every birthday party, holiday celebration. :) Now she's connected to about 30 Filipinos in the area. If your wife is Catholic, take her to church and she's bound to run into some Filipinos. :)

Reopening this

Hi Randy & Jenny,

Thanks for the add. Yes, there are Filipinos in MD, (I included), lol! I haven't been in VJ for so long since I came here in 2006. Mostly, I visit www.theworldoffilipinas.com which is more localized, although I still come in VJ but very rare.

Your wife is already here, right? I can see you are from Owings Mills? I am in Sykesville, so you are close to us. It's good to know there are Filipinas close by. It seems I can't find one close to my neighbors here.

Anyway, I and my husband will be vacationing in the Phils. in March 10. Say hi from me to your wife!
