Must she carry her green card daily?

My wife was pulled over 2 times for minor trafic offenses (new driver...lol) and was involved in a minor accident (not her fault, thank god) and all three times was only asked for drivers license, registration and insurance...her green card and or immigration status was never questioned...with that said, her green card will continue to be stored safely at home where it belongs...

The thing is, and that argument comes from the cops themselves, that cops are not trained in immigration matters. A cop doesn't know` what an H1B means and whether or not a K-1 is allowed to work, or what function the NOA1 has in regard to extending the Green Card's validity. How could they?

I"m just wondering why they give you an envelope thing that tells you to store it in there. Do they mean for you to store it in the envelope and carry it with you?

Yes,

you'll encounter the same envelope with your US passport card. Both contain an electronic chip and the envelope supposedly shields it from hackers who try to access the information on your card while you walk by (!). That's possible because, just like those gas cards that you wiggle in front of the pump, the chip is designed to submit the information when in close proximity of a card reader. Crazy, isn't it?

Yes and my wife will only carry her copy along with her drivers license and other ID's. Too much of a chance for it to be lost or stolen and if we have tickets to travel to the Philippines it would cause a major issue if lost and not with us at the time of departure.

I think I read somewhere that you have to carry your green-card everywhere. I also read that if you loss it when you have to ask for a new one it’s very problematic, especially if you are outside the U.S. ( its like when u are outside the USCIS has extra excuse to keep u out) I think that some people inside the USCIS are totally anti-immigration and want you to lose it on GC on purpose so that they have excuse to the give you problems about it. that why i think they want u to always carry it because you have a grater chance of losing it. That’s why never carry my GC card with me, I only carry my drives license.

Husby carries his with him but after the hassle getting the 10 yr GC to the right address and the thought of having to fork over $450 if it is ever lost in the next 10 years I'm reconsidering.

We were stopped once for speeding and the officer only asked for his driver's license.

as someone who has just experienced the loss...my advice would be to carry a copy and keep the original locked up safely for review upon demand. my husband had his wallet stolen last week so we are getting all his wallet items replaced.
