financial means, no they're not. but, as far as being willing to dump loads of cash into candidate's campaign fund to get favors later. they're neck & neck on the unscrupulous scumbag meter. i'm sure you know that

Fair enough. Unions do represent working men and women, of course. Corporations represent their financiers. I'm sure Wall Street has enough influence In Washington as it is. Nothing wrong with working men and women finding a bit of representation from time to time. Corporations ain't We, The People. Not even close. Working men and women - now that's more like it.

i'll credit to the unions for benefitting a small percentage of the workforce with their election purchases. unfortunately, everyone outside of that small percentage of the workforce gets to fund the union members benefits. yanno its true, either thru taxes or higher prices we're the ones paying for it. at least the corporations provide employment to those not fortunate enough to get a union deal. lets be honest here. if we want to remain anywhere near the top, we're going to have to start showing the corporations a little more love....we the people need jobs.

Are you off on weekends? Do you work a 40 hour work week? Do you get paid vacations? Holidays? Sick days? Other Benefits? How about workplace safety? If the answer to any of these questions is yes, then you belong to that allegedly small percentage of the workforce you say benefited from unions. The fact of the matter is that the vast majority of the workforce benefited from unions.

So lets see. Unions are OK to spend as much as possible to any politician and even campaign or ads that are not in the business best interest but theirs only but that same business can't do so to combat this? Freedom of speech is a one way street in Socialist land I guess.blink.gif

yes. usually a little more by my choice. yes. yes. no, i'm on salary + a % of the net of my company. so i don't need sick days. my employer has paid workers their full salary + commision for 3-6 months in the past, when they were medically unable to come to work. sorry, the unions didn't do that for me. federal & state legislation set up guidelines. my employer delivers it at his expense because he wants his employees to to be content & continue to work for him. now if i had a say 80% or so of current pay monthly pay guaranteed for life + full medical for life, then i'd be included in the small percentage. 60 years ago unions were a different beast. then they did do great things for workers. not so much anymore. now they do thing like help haul a lump of kenyan elephant dung up to pennsylavania ave & get rewarded for their cash donations w/ percentages of the companies they are choking out of business & waivers to exempt them from laws the much larger percentage is forced to abide. i'm seriously looking forward to the next union contracts that will come out of detroit....i'm betting now that the shoe is on the other foot during the negotiations, the union members don't get squat. i'll tell you what why don't you try something for me. go to mcdonalds, a construction site, or just about any warehouse..etc. & tell the workers they should be thankful for all the unions have done for them... btw: if i were you i wouldn't plan on eatting the burgers & i wouldn't stand to far away from my car at the construction site or warehouse..mkay. lemme know what kind of reactions you get..

The Unions didn't do this for us poor old workers. It was actually us common guys that voted that did this wonderful thing. The unions were seen as communistic as they were and still are. The politicians saw the common people voting for certain things and went along to keep their precious jobs. Businesses also during world war 2 were not allowed to pay over a certain wage so with a huge labor shortage business had to do other things to keep and attract workers so they started insurance programs and retirement accounts, etc. Unions have been attractive in certain regions where Socialism is very popular. This area is now known as the rust belt and for a reason.

How is giving them money so they can more effectively campaign the same as 'purchasing' them?

Kind of like how Goldman Sachs heavily contributed to Obama's campaign and now its people are a part of his staff. http://www.patriotnewsnetwork.org/2011/05/list-of-goldman-sachs-people-in-obama.html
