This is by no means a redundant question, although they are made in China, it is under the license and direction of the company. He is specifically asking about the legality of whether he can bring back a knock-off of some kind of tablet PC he bought over there. If it is just a poorly made tablet without trying to be anything other than what it is, you should be fine. If it is a proper knock off of, say, an iPad, then when you get back here, your suitcase will get checked because all will be checked from China, and then it will be thrown out and you may be fined.

If you're only bringing a few, then I would think you'll be ok.

As for the electronics, 99.8% of 'em here in the US are made in China. So you'll be fine.

It really depends on what you mean by knock-offs....

If they are just lesser quality (and price) that look similar but are not fakes of actual name brands then you're ok.

If they are fake iPads or SamsungTabs (or something like that) then technically they are illegal in the US and if CBP detects them they will confiscate them...

If it is a knock-off, you may be allowed to bring one item. "

"However, travelers arriving in the United States may be permitted an exemption and allowed to import one article of each type, which must accompany the person, bearing a counterfeit, confusingly similar or restricted gray market trademark, provided that the article is for personal use and is not for sale."

From here.

I wonder if they check to see if they have pirated software installed. That may be interesting when you try to upgrade.

I brought back a couple pirated PS2 games I bought in Manila. They looked real, indistinguishable from the real items. Even had the correct regional coding. They wouldn't play on a PS2, although I could read the files on my PC.

Those PS/2 Copies usually need a modified System (software or hardware)...

And just additional things, If in any situation you are tempted to bring fake LV's and all those branded handbags, or any brand that is worth a fortune like Chanel, Prada etc in large quantities... DON'T even think about bringing them into the US because surely, they will track you resources on those stuffs.

And some Pirated DVD's. I know of someone ( I even posted here in VJ long ago) that at the POE, she was sent back home because of these pirated DVD's coming from Pinas she had like so many of them.

Just a warning.

Most of the electronics here in the US are made in China or should i say manufactured in China by the company who owns the rights to build them.

Made in China but originals ( if you are a filipino you know what this means) and Made in China but pirated (again if you are a filipino you know what this means) are totally different things.

If your tablets are pirated, fake, illegally manufactured in china.. i would be careful in bringing them to the US.

You could try bringing them. Anyway, you could be redundant by flying twice to the US coz you were ordered to return the first time due to your "made in china" tablets. :bonk:

He is refering to fake, illegally manufactured electronics, pirated electronics... Those stuff we order online are made in china but legal.

Illegal and legal products are two different ball games.
