How long did they take to review the new documents for the joint sponsor?

Hey James,

When I submitted my joint sponosor documents it only took 6 days to hear back from the embassy they had e-mailed me that the joint sponsor documents I provided are acceptable. Also try to call the Embassy at 3:30am or 5:00am US time the only times you can get a hold of someone at the embassy and if you cannot get a hold of someone than try to e-mail the embassy. On the subject enter your case number only and put in the applicant information in the body of the e-mail and ask your question they will get back to you real quick. hope this helps you. Good luck.

That might be an issue. I am not sure since it has passed thru NVC. To get the correct household size for your father he should have done another i-864, you should have done an i-864 as well.

HEy James,

It does not matter if you are not a dependent of your father, because you are living in the same house your dad needs I-864a and you need to fill out I-864 I have gone through this and I had spoken to someone at the embassy if you are living with the co-sponsor than make sure you fill an I-864 form and the household member fills out I-864a. Also if they ask you for a joint sponsor try to send 2008, 2009, and 2010 tax returns.

Not to hijack here, but I have a similar question. My father will be a co-sponsor as well. He has not claimed me as a dependent for 2008, 2009, or 2010. However we DO live in the same household. For 2008 and 2009 I was a missionary for the LDS Church in Mexico and did not have an income (no taxes filed). I am a little confused about whether my father should flie out I-864 or I-864a as I have been told two different things. Help!

Hey carpediem2006,

You fill out form I-864 and your father will fill out form I-864a because you guys are living in the same house so that makes your father a household member.

Hello everyone,

My documents were all fine and were approved by the NVC. I checked with the poverty guidlines before submitting my affidavit of support. I only had a Certificate of deposit on my name 2 years ago which was the the reason I had to file taxes. I am a student and therefore have never been employed. My wife went to the interview and they asked her some questions about the wedding and she replied and showed pictures, etc. At the end they gave her a "Refusal Worksheet" This is the Blue sheet. The Section 221(g) is checked. It says that your petitioners most recent income is not sufficient to sponsor you. A joint sponsor is needed. I was the petitioner and I do not have any income so that is why I used my fathers income plus assets to sponsor my wife. They held her passport and asked her to bring in the affidavit of support again of someone qualified to support you. I mailed her my fathers affidavit again along with all the documents required as well as an additional joint sponsor just in case and now they are telling her that they will giver her a call. Its been 4 days since she submitted the documents and there is still no phone call.

I do not understand why the NVC would approve my affidavit and the embassy would tell her that the petitioner does not have sufficient income. Can it be that they only looked at my tax documents and overlooked my fathers? I tried to call the embassy but they are no help at all. I call them and they just transfer the phone to a machine which disconnects me. Once I get a live person to talk to me they shut the phone on me.

I would really appreciate it if someone could help me out with this situation. I am really lost and do not know what to do.

Do not panic just yet. They are probably validating the evidence and that could take several days, more than 4. You need to account that it's not that they are eagerly waiting for your papers to get on it right away. They likely sit on someone's desk until they get to it. That does not mean months, of course, but do realize they also process other people's papers. So far, all they need is a co-sponsor and you are providing one. I know this is annoying, unnerving even, but give it a few more days; then the next thing to do would be to contact embassy for status

Incorrect.

Plenty of people have been denied on these boards with the same issue the O.P. has had. I am in the same boat as the O.P. I am a student living with my parents. I even called USCIS and they suggested I do it as so...

I am correct because I had made the same mistake. I am living with my brother in the same house and when I sent I-864 for myself and an I-864 for my brother they did not accept and the embassy had e-mailed me, saying the I need to fill out form I-864 for myself and my brother needs to fill out form I-864a and I know I am not incorrect because this is from personal experience with my own case. As soon as I submitted the right forms my documents were accepted.

If they kept her passport than everything is fine they are just re-checking everything and once its approved they are going to

send it to the embassy in Dubai to stamp then is takes 3-4 weeks. BUT this is from just what I hear and from other experiences

so I suggest to loosen up and wait for the call.
