Cherry Hill teen threatened with violence and rape after challenging Bachmann to debate

Amy Myers a 16 year-old young student from Cherry Hill High School East (New Jersey) is being threatened for challenging Tea Party caucus leader Michele Bachmann to a constitutional debate. The young woman, with the help of her father, posted the challenge on CNN's iReports on April 29.

According to her father the reactions to Myer's challenge have been nothing short of terrifying.

“A lot of them are calling me a #######,” Myers said of the anonymous postings. Amy and her father said the comments from conservative websites alarmed them most. Some commenters threatened to publish her home address. Others threatened violence. Some threatened rape.

In her challenge to Bachmann, Myers explained, “I have found quite a few of your statements regarding the Constitution of the United States, the quality of public school education and general U.S. civics matters to be factually incorrect, inaccurately applied or grossly distorted.” Myers also addressed Bachmann’s obligations and responsibilities as a woman:

“As one of a handful of women in Congress, you hold a distinct privilege and responsibility to better represent your gender nationally. The statements you make help to serve an injustice to not only the position of Congresswoman, but women everywhere.”

Well, clearly she's asking for it. No girl puts her brain and guts on display like that and doesn't expect a rape. I mean, really!

When the Ed Schultz's of the world use these low-life tactics and slurs, on-air.... how can we really expect anonymous posters on a web site to behave any better?

Sure he has apologized but the tooth paste is out of the tube and what becomes acceptable continues it's slide to the gutter.

Why not just say that deplorable things are .... deplorable. Without justifying them based on other deplorable things?

I simply put it in context of: How can we expect more from those with no responsibility(random internet posters)... as we do from those with positions of responsibility? (national public figures)

Sadly this type of attack on women is becoming... normal, accepted and routine.
