Hi fellow VJ'ers,

Wondering if anyone else has had not been able to obtain their 2010 tax transcript. I've checked twice now and the recording says it's not available. My taxes were sent in end of March. Possible that it needs to clear 2 months before I can get them? Anyone else have this trouble? Thanks!

You can also submit your W2 and the copy of your 2010 tax return if you couldn't get hold of 2010 Tax Transcript in time.

why do you need the transcript from 2010?

You can just use the signed copy of 1040 that you have sent to IRS + your w2 or 1099 whatever you have.

Harsh--make no mistake that the transcript is the preferabble approach if it is available since it is accepted without question 99.9% of the time since it has already been vetted by the IRS.

Magical - its 2010 anyway from personal experience I never had any problem using 1040s even from past years. In fact I have never ever used a tax transcript I have always used just 1040s and whatever other documents you have like w2s or 1099s etc.

I mean none of the CO is going to hold up the case coz he does not have transcript and instead has a 1040.

Harsh--if someone forgets to send a page of their return or a 1099, then a picky CO can send you an RFE quicker than you can say NUTS !! But with the transcript you do not run that risk at all. Any small thing that we can do to almost totally eliminate an RFE for people just getting started is always the best approach--it is painless, free, and quick--no muss, no fuss, and it eliminates one more possible step. Not everyone has simple tax returns and not everyone is meticulous--always take the safe and sure way when there is an alternative.

Interestingly on another thread I mentioned that what I learned from this journey is that there is not "Sure" or "Only Way" of doing things. In terms of Tax Transcripts for 2010, if one can get that (by the way, I had my ones for 2010 by end of march and I filed my tax in Feb), great, if that's not available, then noterized copy of W2 and Tax Return (1099, 1040 or whatever) should work. Where I will agree with "Magical" is the term "preferabble approach". The sole purpose of trying to be perfect with documents is so that things gets approved without extra time, in first shot, without any RFE. Now at the same time, I am sure people who are sending their AOS in March or April may not get the tax-transcript for that year, hence the alternet's are good solution as well. I am sure if that has been articulated to the CO, they would understand (and I agree, who knows). About lost documnts or pages falling through the cracks, who knows what can happen? L O L. The world can come to and end tomorrow, but that's the risk (or is it :-) ) we have to live with. In cases like that, it would be just our bad luck.

To "LoveMyMohamed">> Call IRS and see if your Tax Transcripts are available or not. If not, you send whatever proof you have, whether it's a W2 and/or 1099, 1040 or whatever. Make sure you noterize those copies. For the rest, cross your fingers and wish all works well.

Again, just my opinion........

Magical, hellraiser, manavv, Harsh, Jeanne and Adil, and everyone, thanks for your input. Yeah, I was hoping to make it a "clean sweep" with all transcripts - nice and neat - but guess I'll have to do the other method for last year's taxes. Thanks everyone, very much. Good luck to you all!

I have a quick question: Did you hear from NVC that "Oh, we contacted your embassy and they couldn't do anything for the month of June.". Also something like "We only contact the local embassy after 2nd week of a month". These are what I heard and was told that they would contact me only when they set up an interview. As the local embassy cannot do anything for the month of June, NVC will contact them again on June (of course after 14th, that's what they meant I guess) and set up the date. I am guessing the date will be at least a month an a half later. So should I assume end of July or Early August? How did that work for you? Can you please shed some light, details would be much appreciated.

Thanks

No I didn't hear that...they just said they would let me know and 2 weeks after case closed, they did and I got an early July appointment. Remember, though, every embassy is different. Short answer here, since I don't want to hijack the OP's thread.
