BTW, Russian people have a tendency of stating that they don't like US and do not want to move. Total lie to save the face. Give them an opportunity and 80% of the country will move here. I am Russian originally, for the record.

You are probably correct. My wife says she did not really want to leave Russia, but after spending a year or two in the US she went back for a visit. She was so disappointed because she saw Russia in a different way. She says Russia is a dirty, depressing, corrupt dump. Of course it probably does not help that we live in a beautiful and relatively wealthy part of the US. I suggested we go back this year for a visit, but she is not interested. Nothing there for her.

uhh.... why?

For the fact President Obama represents the United States of America and the values this country represents there of. If he agree's to loosen the visa restrictions with a country like Russia that makes it a habit of offing human rights workers and journalist, a country that makes a mockery of free and fair elections along with freedom of speech then he makes a mockery of this country.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Do you understand American history and politics at all, or were you home sick from school every day those subjects were covered? Just wondering.

Maybe you could get a bit more in depth with that post.

btw I can't think of any nations that the US has open visa laws with that has such a miserable human rights record such as Russia where murdering journalist and anyone else deemed a threat to the mafia run Kremlin is the norm.

First of all, to be impeached, you have to have committed an actual CRIME. If you have an issue with that, you can take it up with James Madison, because he was the one who championed that it should only be on the basis of crimes. Impeachment is basically a criminal trial.

You cannot be impeached for sullying the name of the United States for associating with unsavory nations or whatever. If sullying the good name of the United States on the world stage was a crime, George W. Bush would be in prison right now, not in a McMansion in the suburbs. Second, the Bush family's connections to the Saudis? Highly suspect. There are countless things far more objectionable than a more favorable visa regime than currently exists--and I don't think that anyone realistically thinks that the US and Russia will have a completely open visa regime.

Google Operation Condor. See how the United States installed dictators in Latin America who disappeared so many people they make Lukashenko look like a real champion of a transparent democracy. The US did similar things in Africa as well, all in the name of "containment." I know you don't care about anything other than Belarus and this is RUB, but we can't pretend that the US doesn't have blood on his hands. And Henry Kissinger got the f*****g Nobel Peace Prize.

Basically, by your logic, every president of modern times should have been impeached. We haven't even gotten into the stuff that Reagan's cronies did. Iran-Contra, ring any bells?

I mean really. This stuff was going on in your lifetime, and you can pretend it never happened and that making it easier for Russians to get tourist visas is some big affront to democracy and human rights everywhere?

For someone who lives and studies in Russia, you seem to know little or nothing of said country. If they US had a track record anything like Russia it would turn into sure anarchy here.

Let me tune you in on the country your now in.

First off the US doesn't threaten people on how to vote. We have a two party system here, and our Congressmen don't threaten to invade their neighbors. We don't beat gay people at rally's, nor do we jail political opponents for marching. We do not force our men to serve two years in the military, nor does our military beat it's recruits to death by the hundreds every year. Our government does not own every national TV station, it does not pressure historians on what to write, nor does it support nationalist party's that have no problem beating foreigners to death.

In regards to journalist and human rights workers, CPJ has had Russia in it's top 10 list as the most dangerous country's to work in for over a decade now. Journalist in Russia have been a target for years and continue to be. I can't recall the last time a journalist was gunned down in the city streets in the US and/or beaten to death by police.

The US does not need to set any kind of precedent with loosening visa laws with Russia when Russia continues to promote criminal behavior. Not even the EU dares to loosen visa laws with Russia for the fact the EU still supports country's that promote human rights and freedom of speech. Russia is a big fat ZERO on both accounts. Anyone who thinks Russia even comes close to a democratic nation that promotes either one of these issues needs to pull their head out of their ####### and get a clue.

For someone who claims to study in Russia, you seem totally oblivious to what happens there.

I was discussing FOREIGN POLICY PRECEDENTS, not domestic policy. The domestic policy differencees between the two countries are totally not relevant to his discussion. Learn to read and formulate an argument relevant to a discussion before you begin questioning my qualifications and experience, before wasting your energy reiterating the arguments that you've posted ten thousand times before and that anyone with any kind of experience in the RUB region knows already.

I doubt the EU's reluctance on loosening visa laws with Russia has anything to do with human rights and everything to do with not wanting an influx of Russians in a system already besaddled by an influx of workers to Western EU countries from former Eastern Bloc ones. Really. And a Shengen visa is already much easier to get than a US tourist visa.

Ah one of my favorite HERO OF RUSSIA recipients. When Russia isn't giving medals to guys like this one, they are busy hiding their communist murders from extradition.

Don't forget now ekee...all you have to do is spit out five or more kids while in Russia and you to can be a "Hero of Russia" recipient. And just think about it...all you have to do is screw and produce children, unlike Kadryov who had to butcher journalist, human rights workers, and even go out of country to murder his opponents.

No offense but...

You sure 29 times to Ukraine? Seems your mentioning of "the" Ukraine is rather ... ignorant

For those of you other countries reading it's not "the" Ukraine it's Ukraine

Thank you. Someone else gets to be the bad guy! One of my pet peeves in life. Which means, basically, I don't have any real problems and should be happy.

I sincerely doubt there would be a huge influx of Russians as illegal immigrants.

Obama should be impeached if this happens.

Obama should be impeached. My concern is that if Obama says it will happen...it won't. (remember...Gitmo, end the wars, lower the gas prices, end the recession, climate protection, Patriot Act, need more?) I think it would be more likely to happen if Obama said "NO WAY!"

Dude, whatever. Want to talk about Russian domestic policy? Make a thread for it instead of jacking every thread on this forum. You're not even talking about guns OR pie.

Jacking every thread ??? This is about opening the visa policy with Russia, and I replied in kind why it was a bad idea...not to forget you asked why. So if you don't have anything educated to add to this thread, then get off it already. My post were pertinent to this topic.

No, you insisted Obama should be impeached. Which isn't even possible by US law, unless he commits perjury or treason or some other kind of CRIME. And then you spewed all of the same stuff you post in every thread in this forum. Boring.

And before you say stuff about how I don't know anything about life in Russia blah blah blah, my best friend actually did go to trial for something he posted on the internet. I have also had dealings with the Russian police myself beyond being asked to be paid a bribe because they saw American and thought "free meals for a month!" (I've never given any money to the police, actually.) So I do know that yes, it is not the US with regard to free speech and human rights. But also there is a difference between how domestic policy works and how foreign policy works, and if you want people to respect your opinions, you'd better figure it out.
