The wife was wrong , but the US flag should fly above it. As the union jack should fly above ours when in the UK , that's just simple respect

I forgive her these trespasses as she was raised in a school where they stand and salute their flag with their hands on their hearts and recite an oath even before they get their pencils out. When I was at school we just sat down and flicked chalk at big ears and there was no regimenting or brainwashing at all

I wear my union flag underpants sometimes and don't tell her - I smirk knowing I am making a private statement against the new roman empire

Nothing so low key for me - I like to tweak their tales more openly

I go up to the VERY conservative gun club in a VERY conservative area, and tell em that if it wasn't for the French, they would still be speaking English

If that doesn't rile em I criticize Newt Gringerichs' $500k Tiffany account and suggest that a real republican would have bought a whole truckload of lovely new guns with all that money

They look at each other and can't decide whether the RIGHT thing is to agree or disagree

you're getting a "rainbow" but if they had put a rainbow in the original flag that would be

the official flag. They didn't so it isn't.

Not too bothered because we Europeans have recent experience of rabid flag wavers and how it always ends

You should have been able to do that if it makes you feel good, no offense to the US flag.

When I drove across Ontario on the 4th of July I was surprised to see many US & Canadian flags

flying side by side on the same (private) house. There were too many of them not to notice.

If Canadians can do that we can too.

Actually, I did feel a bit taken aback when the Pakistanis used to fly their flags in Bradford when they beat the English at cricket - and drove round the town with Pakistani flags flying from their cars.

What made it worse was that nearly all of them were born in England

So I have to be careful not to do the same thing here - especially as it is a flag oriented society like no other in the world
