PArt of the problem is the store.... unlike you and I in our personal life, have a much wider exposure to liabilities. We are responsible for our own actions... the store must account for every $10 an hour worker they have.

The store that allows it's employees to pack a gun assumes much more liability for things they have no control over.

If I owned a corner store, I would allow my clerks to carry if they wanted too, if I owned a chain of stores ... it gets way more complicated.

I might as a policy allow concealed carry peeps to carry but even that gets complicated with keeping up with who's license is expired and so forth.

I would prefer my clerks to carry without my knowledge or authorization.

This is pretty standard. I'm not sure why there's debate on here.

Anyone who carries a gun knows there's going to be legal and/or civil repercussions if they pull it out. Most places are pretty open with their policy of "no guns in the workplace." Firing an employee for violating a policy is pretty standard.

If I was a business owner hiring, I would not want an employee who is smoking at the workplace; I would not want one who has face piercings or earrings that make a Mandingo warrior turn blue with envy, and--unless I own a bank, pawn shop, strip joint or jewelry shop, I wouldn't want one who is carrying a loaded gun to work. I wouldn't want to look into a barrel if I p*ssed him off, perhaps when telling him he's been fired.

Legal reasons mostly but in the end I believe it should be up to the company. This guy probably told no one and hid the gun from his supervisors. Commonsense tells you that a gun will not be accepted in most workplaces.
