Question regarding eligibility

Hey there all,

I've got a question regarding my eligibility for the program that I hope you would be able to help me with.

I was born in England and lived there for six months until returning to Ireland with my Irish mother and British father, hence making me a citizen.

I've been really interested regarding the US Diversity lottery recently and I was looking for possible ways in which I would be eligible to enter it.

I was really excited about entering after seeing the numerous success stories from many people until I found that I may not be eligible to apply.

I found the following:

"Native of a country whose natives qualify:

In most cases, this means the country in which you were

born. However, there are two other ways you may be able to qualify. First, if you were born in a country

whose natives are ineligible but your spouse was born in a country whose natives are eligible, you can

claim your spouse’s country of birth—provided that both you and your spouse are on the selected entry,

are issued visas, and enter the United States simultaneously. Second, if you were born in a country

whose natives are ineligible, but neither of your parents was born there or resided there at the time of

your birth, you may claim nativity in one of your parents’ countries of birth if it is a country whose natives

qualify for the DV-2012 program."

In relation to the second point, does that means that both of my parents would of had to be born outside of the UK? Which in my case would would see me ineligible? And also, they were living in the UK at the time of my birth so I would probably be ineligible in that context also? Or would I be able to just use Ireland (my mothers birthplace) as my country of eligibility?

Any information would be great appreciated.

You were born in the UK and your father is British ( was he born in the UK? ) were you parents legal residents of the UK at the time of your birth ? If you answered either question yes your country of birth and DV lottery entry is the UK ( not able to enter ) If you father was born someone else ( say Nigeria ) and is only a naturalized UK cititen and they weren't legal residents there ( hard to believe if he was a UK citizen at the time of your birth ) but only visitors to the UK then you could choses either parents country of birth.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

DV sticks to country of birth to keep people from getting 2nd citizenships to be able to apply ( or apply multiple times based on many citizenships )

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

Thanks for all the replies everyone, I really appreciate it :) Hopefully I'll get a chance to enter in the future then!

Yeah, we were both born in the UK and yeah they were both legal residents of the UK a the time of my birth so I definitely won't be able to enter, here's to the future though :)
