I have a marriage-based Green Card and I will apply for citizenship based on the 3-year marriage rule in August this year. I just removed the conditions on my resident status less than a year ago and going through the list of supporting evidence for the N-400 application appears to be pretty redundant compared to the residency related applications.

For instance, they ask for proof of citizenship of the US citizen spouse and tax records of the last 3 years. A copy of the passport had already been submitted for the I-485 application and USCIS has transcripts of our tax returns of the previous two years as a resident when I applied for Removal of Condition. The same is true for divorce decrees of ours that were sent in with the initial I-485.

So, this brings up the question if I am supposed to resubmit all this stuff or if USCIS i rather burdened by doing this and would prefer a smaller file leaving out the duplicate copies of this kind of stuff?

What did you guys do and how did it work out?

The U.S. Government makes a big deal of "Paperwork Reduction". In fact, there is a "Paperwork Reduction Act". BUT, we both know that if you don't send in what they are requiring, you will probably get a RFE (even though you have submitted it a half dozen times before to the same agency). Others who have gone through this more recently can give you better guidance in this matter. Just my 2 cents. Good luck on your Citizenship!!

Think of it this way - the department who did your ROC is probably not the same department who will do your N400. On top of that your N400 is being physically sent to a local office, so if you don't include the necessary items how will they get all of it? Someone at the Lockbox is not going to take the time to go through your file and pick out document copies you've previously sent.

I agree that it is tiresome, but you're better off giving them what they want - after dealing with USCIS for 3+ yrs you remember how inefficient they are :)

Let's use logic: why the f'ck do we have to go to the Biometrics appointment when doing AOS, then again when doing ROC, and a third time when applying for naturalization? Because we changed our DNA? Our fingerprints? Doesn't USCIS have all of this on file already?

Okay, now ask yourself: do you have to send the required documents in again? What to you think?

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

We sent in only evidence that was accumulated since our last submission (ROC), so about 2 years worth of bills, joint account statements, photos, letters, car stuff, insurance stuff. It was still probably way more than they wanted, but we've gotten this far doing nice fat submissions, so why quit now?

I won't know what to do after this is over and I go to take a photo of family still thinking "will this photo be good for our next package to USCIS??".

Good luck to everyone!

Wife saw her file at her interview, others here have reported the same, a stack of papers at least three inches thick. Yes, it is redundant. So is the N-400, since I had the G-325a's, I-485, and I-751 on the computer, was 99% a copy and paste operation to fill out the N-400 with just some minor updating.

If my stepdaughter didn't turn 18 before my wife could apply, would have only been 1,350 miles of driving for fingerprints, but that made it 1,800 miles of non-tax deductible driving. But so are the fees non-tax deductible, checked that out with the IRS. So all that was paid with post tax dollars.

We have to do about 99% of the work to gather all that information, try and figure out what the heck they are asking, don't dare make a single error, because they say if you do, can keep your fees and deny your application. Keep appointments that are most convenient for them, don't dare be a second late, but waited up to 3 1/2 hours after our appointed time. We are guilty of fraud until we prove ourselves innocent.

Us sponsors have to prove we are wealthy enough to bring those people here, and pay a severe penalty if any public or private aid is given. In the mean time millions of undocumented people are here draining our resources with Medicaid and the like.

I was slightly annoyed when I learned I had to dig out my 51 pages of double sided divorced papers, again. How in the hell do they think my wife got her green card in the first place? That was 13 months of hell. But to lightened things up, wasn't as bad as that blood bath the Greeks went through to get Helen of Troy back.

Redundant it may seem but it will definitely save you from getting RFE... I basically sent the very same documents I sent on my AOS and ROC.
