They should cut the bull sh!t and just call it hyper-inflation cause that is exactly what it is. Not too long ago I was in the gas station and a grown man came up to the window and said "$7 on number 9"...

I could see the local news now at the grocery store:

"So ma'am, $300 in groceries plus a $90 tax...How is that fair tax going for you?"

At the gas station:

"Remember the good old days when it cost $65 to fill up your tank...Well, we could return to that but we're paying 30% more at the pump which puts us from $3.9 to $5.1 a gallon...How do you like the "fair tax"?

Did you overlook the prebates for necessities?

Did you notice Fica is eliminated?

Why did you jump the percentage up from 23% to 30%?

BTW, I'm not sold on the proposal. (and it seems this is Cain's 2nd)

I just prefer accurate and fair comparisons.

Do me a favor? Please calculate the percentage rate of Fed + Fica withholding from your pay.

Dude, either your math really sucks or you're very slow to grasp simple concepts. Let me try and break it down like I would to my 4.5 year old daughter.

The "fair" tax as proposed would be 30% on every purchase. Hence, if you buy a good or service that costs $100.00, then you'd actually pay $130.00. When you look at it from the other angle - i.e. you paid $130.00 of which $30.00 go to Uncle Sam, then that $30.00 represents 23% of what you spent - i.e. 23% of $130.00 = $30.00. The "fair" tax proponents like to use the lower rate figure to make this scam more palatable. It's a bit dishonest since this is essentially a sales tax. Everyone being familiar with sales taxes, we should stick with the way sales tax rates are commonly expressed.
