Why? If they don't, charge them extra for a paper cup. Similar ideas have been implemented with regard to paper and plastic bags. The cost of such supplies is in the millions for the businesses, who then pass on the cost to the consumer. If you don't want to do it for the benefit of the environment, then do it because you're a tightwad with your money.

All of life's problems cannot be solved by banning things.

It's like the idiocy behind the Ontario tax on plastic bangs. You have a pay a nickel for each one. Does the government get this money? No. The business does. Sure it's great for the businesses to make some of their money back, but to regulate it on that idea is a bit silly.

I don't recycle because frankly I don't care. There's a few times when I cringe at grocers who overuse bags (why i use self-checkout and bag my own to use less). The only thing that irritates me really is how long receipts have become. You buy two items at the store and your receipt is 100ft long...

be interesting to see the health department regulations created so the coffee shop can "properly handle" the customer supplied (questionably clean) to-go mugs.

or ... the coffee shop can simply give a ceramic cup of coffee to the customer so they can fill their own to-go cup.

oh wait ... this would be a mcdonalds coffee lawsuit looking for a place to happen ...

On Maui, we have ban plastic bags. Some stores offer paper bags but most are B.Y.O.B.
