US petitioner, should we have the long birth certificate or is the "certificate" itself sufficient

I was divorced in NY State, I have the judgment of divorce, dated for Sept 30, 2010 entered into the court on October 6, 2010, to DR standards is this sufficient?

With regard to beneficiary, can they have the documents ready and just have them legalizada once the interview day draws near?

If the cedula is expired, is the paper receipt they receive enough? (He was told that they are not ready to print new cedulas as of yet)

Thanks for the responses

You should take your birth certificate (if born in the US) and your US passport -which you will have anyway since you entered the DR. The beneficiary's birth certificate has to be in the inextensa format (which is a little bit more expensive and has a little bit more information than the "shortened" version). About the cedula, this is a really important document used in the DR all over and is definitely asked for at the Embassy. Couldn't your fiance go to another junta electoral to get his cedula? Surely not ALL of the country's card making machines are broken? Definitely take your final divorce decree with you. At the end, you might not need your original documents, but it will be better to have them ready if needed.

August 23, 2010 - I-129 F package sent via USPS priority mail with delivery confirmation.

August 30, 2010 - Per Department of Homeland Security (DHS) e-mail, petition received and routed to California Service Center for processing. Check cashed. I-797C Notice of Action by mail (NOA 1) - Received date 08/25/2010. Notice date 08/27/2010.

After 150 days of imposed anxious patience...

January 24, 2011 - Per USCIS website, petition approved and notice mailed.

January 31, 2011 - Approval receipt notice (NOA 2) received by mail. Called NVC, given Santo Domingo case number, and informed that petition was sent same day to consulate.

Called Visa Specialist at the Department of State every day for a case update. Informed of interview date on February, 16 2011. Informed that packet was mailed to fiance on February, 15 2011.

February 21, 2011 - Fiance has not yet received packet. Called 1-877-804-5402 (Visa Information Center of the United States Embassy) to request a duplicate packet in person pick-up at the US consulate in Santo Domingo. Packet can be picked-up by fiance on 02/28.

March 1, 2011 - Medical exam completed at Consultorios de Visa in Santo Domingo.

March 9, 2011 at 6 AM - Interview, approved!

March 18, 2011 - POE together. JFK and O'Hare airports. Legal wedding: May 16, 2011.

OK, the beneficiary's BC is inextensa that has always been stated. But the question is the petitioner's BC??? Is it needed in the short version or the long version????.....It is not that the machines are broken but the cedulas get printed at their due time. My fiance as well has the receipt he was given for the newer cedula he will be notified when ready.

It has also been stated that in lieu of a birth certificate to establish citizenship the US petitioner can provide copies of the American passport and present the original, if requested, at the interview. In order to get the cedula at the "due time" your fiances could probably hand over some cuartos to get them done sooner...

So just in case I will take both versions of my USC BC and if they need it I will have it. Its not like the passport that you hand over a few pesos and within a few hours you have it. It doesnt work like that with the cedula, if not he would of been had IT!! :bonk: :bonk:
