Upon getting my wife her SS#. Her first name was together with last name. Her SS# was wrong due to I-94 was written incorrectly. She went to uscis office in chicago downtown and they said it can not be changed. They stated that fill out the AOS with the correct name then later once the green card is issued change it later. We already filed AOS and waiting for NOA1. Others must have come across this issue and how did it get resolved?

What name did you use when filing for AOS?

Her correct name, First Middle Last. The SS# had it FirstMiddle Last. no middle.

The only reason I was asking was I was assuming that she filed for AOS in her maiden name. The SSA won't issue a card in any name other than the name on the I-94, but the GC overrides the I-94. Since you've already filed for AOS, it's too late to change the I-94 with the CBP because you already submitted a copy of the incorrect one with your AOS. If this is the name she is going to keep, she can change the name on her SS Card once she receives her GC.

My wife did not change her name. We wanted to make the process simple so we keep it the same so that her birth certificate, passport and any other information is the same. Thanks for the information. I hope there should not be an RFE for the AOS.

Go to O'Hare or look up offsite CBP and bring the old I-94 and ask them to update their systems and issue a new I-94 (with old expiration date). This should take care of the SSA discrepancy as they pull information from CBP computers.

That's worth a shot and fairly easy to do. (We had to do that at our CBP deferred inspection site because the CBP agent at POE abbreviated my wife's name on her I-94 upon arrival.) The only question I have would be concerning the change in I-94 info between the AOS filing and the potential GC interview. It may or may not even be an issue but I don't know.

In either case, the name on the SS card can be corrected upon receipt of the GC or EAD.
