What happens if I don't make enough money for the Affidavit of Support to be valid?

If you dont meet the poverty level requirement the case will be denied. Check with the embassy to ask if they allow co sponsors for your K 1 case. If so find one. If not consider marrying in Mexico & then file for a C R 1 which does allow the use of so sponsors.

Most people would say that you should look for a co-sponsor to enable you to have the paperwork processed.

I disagree whole-heartedly.

If you cannot meet the minimum income requirements (which are barely over poverty levels), how to you expect to support your new fiancee/spouse in the US? Your co-sponsor will most likely not support him/her, even though they are technically on the hook by co-sponsoring. The co-sponsors don't actually ever envision themselves supporting the people they co-sponor. If they did, nobody would actually sign it. Most parents, siblings, uncles, etc sign it to help their family member out, I don't think they would actually do it.

You have a difficult decision to make. How will you handle supporting your spouse if things don't change for the better? Can you count on somebody to help you, if needed? Maybe it's better to wait until you have means to support somebody?

Juarez accepts joint sponsors. Just have them also fill out the I-134 and provide a transcript of their latest tax return, proof of their employment, amount they make, and proof of their citizenship.(copy of birth certificate or the bio page from their passport) Good luck!

Thank you thank you! I already have a sponsor I just wasn't sure how to go about filing it. You made me feel better :)

Where can I find the income requirements? I'm not even sure what they are. I just moved back from Mexico so I don't have a lot of income to show because I have only been working in the US for a few months, which is why I am worried about it.

You are welcome, and you can find the requirements here: http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/i-864p.pdf
