I heard that not everyone has to go for AOS interview. Does anyone know what % of people filing for AOS after marriage on K1 have to go for interview and how do they determine who has to go and who does not?

It is random whether you get an interview for AOS, most K1s dont as they are interviewed by an officer when they get the K1 visa, if your case gets transferred to California you will just be sent the approval without interview.

I just logged onto USCIS.GOV and it says I have been scheduled an interview. I guess it is completely random - I thought my case was pretty straight forward :)

06.10.10 - Routed to CSC/NOA1 email

09.10.10 - Cheque cleared

07.10.10 - NOA1

14.10.10 - Touch

02.02.11 - Received Police Record (Took 17 days)

10.02.11 - Medical (Received results 6 days later)

22.03.11 - NOA2 (166 days/5.5 months)

This is incorrect. Most cases are sent to California (CSC) and your file can STILL be sent back to your local office for interview.

The reason for interviews isn't about the K1. K1's are able to not have interview because they were interviewed for their K1 BUT this doesn't mean they won't be interviewed. Some offices have a quota, sometimes your file has red flags that require and interview.. myriad of reasons.

A very sharp immigration attorney recently told me that 10% of all AOS (and ROC) filers must be interviewed, by statute. Others will also undergo interviews for reasons of confirming the relationship, etc.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

I heard that it could also depend on how busy your local USCIS office is? Not sure if that's true.. :) But if you look at the trend from the April filers, so far around 9 of the 33 April filers on the thread got transferred.. There are 7 with interview dates and the rest are still waiting to know if they will have an interview or not.

My Journey:

We met through a study-abroad program in Shanghai, China in August of 2009

We got engaged March of 2010

I received my K1 VISA in 6 months (June-December 2010)

We were married 04/02/2011
I received my conditional 2-year greencard (AOS) in 2.5 months with no interview (April-June 2011)

Our son was born 02/03/2013

I received my masters degree in Speech-Language Pathology 04/17/2013

I received my 10-year greencard (ROC) in 3 months with no interview (March-June 2013)

My husband returned from deployment 06/20/2013

My naturalization journey took 4 months (April-August 2014)

I became a US citizen on 08/01/2014

Received passport in 3 weeks (regular processing)

Our is very straight forward with no complications and we still had an interview scheduled for June 20th. I really think it is a random call. Were not really worried about interview since we know we are a couple and have supporting evidence. Just not looking forward to the long drive to Detroit. Ugg.
