I find this statement meaningless. "the focus was all about the popular vote". Again, we all know the rules of the game. The only rules that count are Electoral College rules. In the 2000 election, the media reporting made a lot of noise about Gore's popular vote margin over Bush but that's not what the fight was about. If that's what the fight was about, everyone would have recognized on Election Night that Gore had won. The reason there WAS a fight for the next 2 months was because everybody understood that the fight was about Florida, and about counting every single hanging chad in Broward and West Palm Beach and throughout the state. Why? Because the fight was about the Electoral College. To say otherwise is to deny that we even know the rules of the game we are playing by. Since I know you're not saying that, that's why I'm confused and don't understand your comments at all.

It seems some people, like Danno, are so obsessed with the media merry go round of party politics that they play headgames with themselves. Unfortunately they only seem to confuse themselves.

I even remember in 2008 a campaign ad full of celebrities (Tom Cruise, Denzel Washington, Leonardo DiCaprio, and a few more):

"Get out and vote"

"In 2004 the election was decided by a few hundred votes in Florida"

"Just a few hundred votes"

Seriously? Maybe they mean "a few hundred K votes (the difference in FL alone was over 400,000), otherwise it's rather inaccurate.
It was pretty obvious what the ad was really saying: "If a few hundred of you fvcktards would have gotten up off your lazy asses we wouldn't have gotten Bush in '04"

They will probably run the same ad again in 2012

Do you have a source or are you referring to the 2008 elections? Cause I found the ad (extended version, the one I saw was chopped to 30 seconds) and they say it was decided by 537 votes...

EDIT: I put 2004 in the post you quoted...should have been 2000...
