Photos requested before interview - DHL mandatory?

Hi,

I received my packet 4 via email and they requested the 2 passport style photos to be sent prior to the interview. I live in Toronto, and there are no DHL locations (on the list they provide) in the city, the closest are Markham or Brampton ... neither of which I can get to. Is it mandatory to use DHL to submit them?

Any advice is welcome! I don't want to take a half day off work to send them if I can avoid it...

Unless they specifically say in the letter DHL is mandatory then you can use any other. If they request DHL then you have to comply. Make sure you add a cover letter with your MTL0000000 case number, write clearly it's for the IV Unit and include a photocopy of their request.

I am surprised they're asking you to provide photos prior to the interview. Did you forget to include them in your Packet 3?

I didn't include them in packet 3, I thought I was supposed to just bring them to the interview. They included this in the email:

Please visit http://www.usvisa-info.com/en-CA/selfservice/us_courier_information for detailed instructions on how to send the above items to the Immigrant Visa Unit of the Consular Section. The courier services are provided at no extra cost to you.

DHL is the only option provided there, but it doesn't say if it's mandatory or not, just that its free.

I was asked to send the photos as well, but they were included in Packet 3 when I sent in the package. When I called DOS, they told me that I should just bring them to the interview which makes no sense! As of right now, I still have not sent anything.... hope that is ok :S
