Hi to all the women preparing for the big day I got myself a nice wedding dress, shoes and matching bag for £500....... although we are having a register office wedding intially and a blessing later, is this common for most of us women''?or is a nice outfit enough?Just asking out of curiosity ....

Congrats on your upcoming day! We are (eventually) doing the same thing, a JP ceremony for the paper work and a wedding later. I am wearing my dress both times. I am really excited at the thought of being able to wear it twice!

I hated my dress. Fortunately it was only £50 in the sale, and I only had to wear it once (what happened was, I'd been shopping very briefly to look for dresses - my mother insisted on a 'traditional' style - and hadn't liked any of them. I went back home, and a couple of days later my mother rang to say she was concerned that I might not have a dress, and so she'd used my birthday money from my aunt and uncle to buy the 'best' of the ones I'd tried on. I was saving all the money I possibly could, so I figured I may as well wear it).

Most people I know who have a registry office wedding still wear a wedding dress - really, it's up to you! If you have a dress that you like, excellent, and I'm jealous.

I wore jeans and a nice shirt to have my friends sign our marriage certificate here in the US. I have a nice Maggie Sottero, but we never got around to having a ceremony and now I'm 8 months pregnant - oh well I rather have that house my husband keeps talking about.

We're going to be doing the same thing I think. I'm planning to perhaps get a new (cheap!) outfit for the civil ceremony, and then wear my dress for the blessing/larger ceremony that we're doing later. Any excuse, eh?

She is not too concerned about her wedding dress, but she wants me to be in my Army uniform. ACU cammies, not Class A's.
