Excess Bagage

Hi, when i leave for the US I dont have alot of personal effects (namely clothes, paperwork and CD's), to ship so it would maybe make more sense to take them with my on my flight.

So my question is, can i take my 1 suitcase (allowed luggage), aswell as a large holdall/2nd suitcase and if so, is there a certain weight it has to be under?

Most charge you for the second checked bag, and usually they'll allow up to 50 Lb/23 kilos for each bag. The fees, rules and dimensions depend on the airline company so I'd recommend stopping by seatguru.com, choose airline company and then click the "baggage" tab.

I have never seen them weigh carry ons. In fact, other than size restrictions I don't know of any weight restrictions for them.

If posible I always put my heavier [ if small enough ] items in there.

I'm hoping to fly with BA this week or next on my CR1 visa.

I'm going to fly with 3 suitcases. Initially I'm only allowed 1, but the excess charge per suitcase is something like £40 each. Far cheaper then shipping my things across or using royal fail

Agreed! I did that and it worked out so well..

The chap who checked me in was really nice.. my bags were slightly over the 50 lb limit but he let them through, as I explained I was moving ;-)

i know that on

United Airlines - it is 23kg and 65 linear inches and 1 checked baggage one carry on bag and one personal bag free of charge and like 35 dollars an extra checked bag

British Airways - it is 23kg and 35.5 by 26 by 16 inches or something like that one carry on bag and one personal bag free of charge not sureo n the cost of the extra bag

American Airlines - it is 23kg and 65 linear inches for a checked bag, one carry on and one personal bag free of chargee an di don't know about hte charge for extra bag, (i am flying with them when i move on friday)
