Anyone have an authentic Schwarzwaelderkirschtorte recipe?

Since David and I met in in the Black Forest area, and that has been my favorite dessert of all time, it is fitting that we have chosen this as our wedding cake.

I am going to make it myself and have an experimental one cooling on a rack as I type... I've made them before but have had inconsistent results with them not falling apart with the Kirsch (cherry liquor) that is added. Tonight's recipe is new from a bakery in Freiberg.

So, I have a few weeks to bake and experiment. Anyone have an authentic recipe they'd like to share, preferably in US measurements? (The one I just made called for many unit of measure conversions...)

(edited: the 2nd subject line should have obviously read "Black Forest Cake". It's late....

A great marriage is not when the "perfect couple" comes together.

It is when an imperfect couple learns to enjoy their differences.

Sorry I can't help ya, but the title brought back a memory...took German for 7 years in school, and we had this German cooking assignment...couple of friends came over and we made Schwartzwalderkiershetorte......(whew..what a word!) It turned out really nice...gawd, I had to have been about 15 at the time. Hope you find one! :) M.

Viel Gluck! :)

PS...I know there's Google UK, etc...is there one specifically for other countries? (may be a stupid question, but I don't know, so...) Maybe you could google for a 'real' German recipe there...

I'm doin' the happy dance... thank you SO MUCH!! The cake I made last night didn't rise enough to make 3 layers out of it... I think I used too big a pan... I will try this one next!

(PS - Kirsch is the ONLY 'authentic' Schwarzwaelder  )

Derivatives? Are you kidding me? The SW Kirschtorte is the best!

I know it the best, hence why I said among the favorites.. but the others are also quite good.

There's a small local chain of cafés here that makes one that's coconut.

I have to admit, I like that better—I like cherry a lot, yet somehow I don't really like Black Forest Cake.
