Hello, I'm a US citizen (in the US) & my wife (a foreigner outside the US) [no kids] and we are going through the CR1/IR1. We just received I-130 approval & I want to clarify my understanding of what's next and how to make things go as fast & smoothly as possible:

- My understanding is that we will both be mailed the DS-3032. If I understand from suggested shortcuts online, as soon as I can get the case number by calling the NVC automated line, then we can use a website to generate the barcode, & fill out & send the DS-3032 (if I have her signature) . . . or alternatively she can email it.

- When I receive the AOS (I-864) I send that out ASAP with the $88 fee or pay it online (which I'll do). I believe I read that if I pay the fee online, I get access to the barcode and can then send the I-864 out right away. Otherwise, alternatively, I would pay the fee via mail and then receive the I-864 Petitioner Packet and then send out the I-864. Is my understanding here correct?

- As I will be the Agent, I will also receive the IV Bill and pay it online as well

- As the Agent, I will then receive and send out the DS-230 and any necessary documentation

Questions:

----------

- Once I pay the IV Bill, do I need to wait for the DS-230 Package or can I just send out the DS-230 as soon as I've paid the IV Bill? (Or can I even send out the DS-230 earlier?)

- Actually, What is the IV Bill (IV Application Processing Fee)? I've looked at the fee charts and am not sure. Would we fall under the $330 "Immediate relative and family preference applications" fee?

Thanks for your Help,

Jon

Hi efyl,

Can you please start your time line and also add type of visa (I know you said CR1 in your post) but add it to you profile. As well, what country your wife will be processing in... and so on. Fill out all your profile info, it will be more helpful in answering questions and addressing any specifics appropriately.

Your post is generally correct, but a couple things not quite. Anyway, please fill out the rest of your info, than we can proceed more easily.

Congrats on your I-130 approval. Look forward to your update so we can get you moving along in the right direction.

Best Wishes,

Hello efyl,

Here are some of my understandings based on my limited knowledge:

Keep calling NVC to find out if your case is assigned with a NVC Case Number. The moment this is done, do the following (in any order)

1. Call NVC, talk to an operator and update her with both your and her email address and contact phone

2. Tell your wife to send an email to NVC (NVCINQUIRY@state.gov) with similar format of DS3032 nominating someone as her choice of agent.

Once that is done, in few days you will receive a confirmation and afterwards, all correspondence will be sent to the agent, and cc the beneficiary (your wife).

As soon as you become the choice of agent, it will tell you to pay the fee online for AOS and later for IV. As you pay the fee, wait for the status to become "PAID" and then print out the coversheet with barcode.

At the same time, you gather all the documents for AOS and send it to NVC (I would recommend you to send an identical copy to your wife). From the NVC site, you can find out what are the documents required for AOS (for example: I-864, tax transcript, if necessary pay stub, and employment letter and so on)

Once your IV bill status is "PAID", print out the coversheet with barcode and send all relevant documents (DS 230 and civil documents) to NVC. Make sure you send all original documents and all forms are filled right with signature. Also, make sure you send a copy of each document as well.

To answer to your questions:

- You don't need to wait for the DS-230 mail to be sent to you and you can be proactive and send the documents ONCE the bill status is PAID. You will need the bar coded cover page. It's matter of a day or two.

- Yes, that's what IV Bill is. The fee for this right now is $404 (AOS = $88).

So don't worry, the next few things will happen pretty fast. Once you send both your AOS and IV packages you may get stuck in a pause again, but this may not be as long as it was with USCIS.

Everyone learns something new, go through different experience hence no one can give you exact solution, but you will find great ideas from this site.

Good luck.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

You will find that you will get a ton of emails from NVC, and if you follow their instructions explicitly, things will move very quickly. Use the guides here to jump start the process, but things are changing and the guides haven't completely kept up.

For example, NVC will send you an email with a partially filled out 3032 that your wife can print, fill in your name, address, etc, scan it, and email it back--no need to use the 3032 template here.

I was assigned as her agent less than 24 hours after we submitted the scanned form !!

So far everything with NVC has been extremely smooth for us, and we will submit all the paperwork when we are back from vacation next week, and if they are as efficent with the rest of the process, we could actually be done under seven months--hope that deosn't jinx us saying it out loud !!

My wife didnt scan anything. All she done was type her name and date in the fields and sent to nvcinquiry@state.gov

She recieved the acceptance notice the next day.
