Chase bank said they will add my wife even though she is not even in the country yet. Only bank so far I have found that will do that.

Most banks will add you to the account, most request only a SSN which you have. Several posts earlier were from spouses having problems with the banks because they did not have a SSN.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

You should be able to get an ID card at the DOT (Dept. of Transportation) without your EAD card. My wife didn't have her EAD card and got hers.

After you can go to Bank of America with your ID card and Passport.

Good Luck

Shop around and you can find a bank that will add you on his account. (He would be the peimary and you would be the secondary on the account.)

I havn't even moved and I was able to have a shared account with SO with Bank of America.

It made for good evidence for the NOA2 as it proved we were in the same place at the same time :)

Most banks will allow you to open a bank account with your SSN and your passport as ID. My husband did this.

My husband just added my name to his Bank of America Account this morning! :) He called yesterday and asked them what I need to bring. So I brought My passport, marraige cert, I.D. of my country, my credit card and SSN card.

She was a bit oonfused about my name (whether to use my maiden or marraige name) but at last it's fine. She just photocopied my marriage cert so she can use my married name. She even asked if I want to apply a credit card from their bank too.

So I guess it's not that hard. Maybe you can try Bank of America too.

I managed to open a bank account with Washington Mutual over the phone yesterday. The ID they asked for was my UK passport number and the expiry date of a credit card which has my name on it. :-)

  • 3 weeks later...

As long as you have a passport as ID & a SSN or ITIN, Capitol One will let you have an account. I added my husband to my account with just his passport & the letter from the IRS with his ITIN.

Now we have to go in an change his ITIN to his SSN
