Thank you! :star: And thanks everyone for listening to me whine throughout the process.

USCIS has updated my case three times since the approval, though. First it was card production, then it got changed to decision, then it got changed BACK to card production and I received an email for all of them. Figures you hear nothing from them for months and then when you're done, they don't leave you alone.

Yup, happened for me too! I was so confused LOL.

How is everyone doing? I've been working a lot, still haven't found a chance to visit home. I miss lots of weird things and sort of fall into the trap where it's very similar here to at home that I get used to it and then something jarring happens to remind me just how different it can be, its strange.

Now I got a notice saying they've mailed my card. They sure like keeping me up to date all of a sudden.

I'm pretty good. My parents were able to visit in April, and that made me really happy. It was horrible having them leave, though, because while they were here it felt like 'old times', you know? I'm not sure when I'll get to visit Canada, have to see if the temp job I have now turns permanent or not. At the latest, it'll be Christmas :(

I totally know what you mean. Sometimes, a few days go by when I don't think about home really. I am just settled into my routine of going to work, going home, living my life here. And then someone will ask me a question about Canada, or something will happen here that is slightly different than what would happen at home, and then I get sad. It's really bizarre when it hits you like that.

I hope everyone's doing well!

Same thing for me! I was all happy and excited, then it went back to decision and I was all sad. Next morning it was stating my card had been delivered. Way to toy with our emotions lol!

Congrats on the approval! It is about time lol!!! Now you can relax!

I still don't have a job, but I was in Canada for almost 6 weeks (just got back on Tuesday). I plan to start looking in the next couple weeks. We had our Canadian wedding ceremony on June 2nd. It was AWESOME! I am so so glad we did it. I got to see all my family and friends and that made me happy! I am happy to be back though. It is weird...I got home sick for Annapolis about 2 weeks after going back to Canada. It was great to be back in my hometown though. I got a few bottles of Canadian Heinz Ketchup as wedding gifts lol! I am good for a while now! I also picked up some VH cooking sauces and dips. We had a full van load of my stuff so I couldn't buy too much stuff to bring back. Maybe next time!

Congrats!!!

Hubby's still looking for a job. He had an interview last week, so our fingers are crossed. It's getting a bit ridiculous- I want to AOS already. My medical expires on the 21st of this month so I'm gonna have to start looking up civil surgeons in the area.

I feel the same way. Then I realize that I can't find nanaimo bars here or something else about the food is different and I suddenly miss home a lot. I really miss all the cute little shops in Toronto, especially Kensington Market. Las Vegas just doesn't compare...

On the bright side one of my friends from Canada is visiting me in July  Very excited about that.

Nanaimo Bars recipe

Base:

1/2 cup butter

3 and 1/2 tbsp. cocoa

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 egg

1/4 cup sugar

2/3 cup flaked coconut

1/3 cup chopped walnuts

1 and 1/3 cup graham wafer crumbs

Heat butter, cocoa, vanilla extract, sugar and egg in a saucepan over low heat. Add crumbs, coconut and nuts. Press into an 8" square pan. Chill.

Filling:

2 cups icing sugar

2 tbsp. custard powder

1/4 cup butter

2 tbsp. milk (approximately)

Mix icing sugar and custard powder together. Beat in butter, and add enough milk so that it can be spread over the crust.

Topping:

3 squares semi-sweet chocolate

1 tbsp. butter

Melt chocolate and butter together in the microwave on low. Spread over filling. Chill in refrigerator and cut into bars.

Hint: Take the squares out of the fridge for about 15 minutes before cutting.

Note: For a large (Costco) cookie sheet triple the recipe.

Also note: When I was preparing to make this recipe with my fiance's family at their place, they were looking into ingredients and had no idea what custard powder was or how to get it. They were looking into substitutes but I ended up just bringing down a container of custard powder myself. I'm not sure if it's really hard to find custard powder in the USA or if they just didn't have experience with it so hopefully that part works out for you!

Also, if I put in 1/2 that means half a cup and not one or two. ;)

Wow, thanks! I can't wait to try this out!

The fact that the egg is only slightly heated then chilled makes me a little nervous... But it's not like I haven't eaten raw cookie dough.

No problem-if you do please tell me how it turns out for you! I'm also curious at your custard powder locating abilities. As for the egg you can heat it up fully you just don't want to start at high heat... slowly heat it up on low. I usually wait till it boils a second before mixing it with the rest of the stuff.
